As a business partner at the "Red & Blue Club” level, we donated in-kind services for the cleaning all of the school's front sidewalks in time for orientation this Friday. With school budgets being significantly reduced this year, we wanted to help out the students and faculty and provide a clean environment for them to teach and learn. We’ll return to Sebastian prior to basketball season to clean up the gym entrance and sidewalk leading to the gym from the parking lot. This partnership is especially sweet since my daughter is a 7th grader here.

We’re also in talks with a few other schools to provide the same in-kind services during the school year. High Tide is proud to be able to help out the schools by donating our services towards several cleaning projects. Although each school has different donor benefits, we’ll receive PR and community goodwill through inclusion in the school newsletter sent home to 600+ Sebastian families; logo/link on the Partner in Education page on Sebastian PTO website and Facebook page, listing in bi-annual Partner in Education supplemental flyer sent home to all Sebastian families and a quarter-page ad in school yearbook. Not bad for a few hours’ work!

We are in final discussions with 3 schools to try to reach the desired benefits, with a couple other schools in preliminary talks. All the schools know of the quality work we do as High Tide was the preferred vendor for the past 2 years. I think the PR and community goodwill benefits will be worth it.

While High Tide was one of three authorized contractors for the past two years, we are currently not one of the four contractors for this school year (the bids were much lower than I would go). This past week, I found out that "someone" ( I am assuming one of the current contractors - no company names will be mentioned in this thread) called the district to complain that an "off-contract vendor" was pressure cleaning the schools. This call resulted in an email sent to all the school's maintenance managers stating that all pressure cleaning must be by one of the current contractors.

The part that has people laughing is that they know I am donating this service for FREE!!!!! Contracts apply only to work that is paid for. The kicker is that High Tide is not even working with the school itself , but the school's PTO, which is a separate legal entity incorporated in the state of Florida as a 501(c)3 with the specific intent to provide services and resources to their schools that would not otherwise be possible. So, as part of its established Business Partner program, the PTO secured a business sponsor - who just happened to be a parent - to provide a donation of a service that the school cannot do on its own and does not have the budget for. The school did not solicit these services - it accepted a gift from its PTO and a community-minded business. As all schools do all year long, every year.

Isn't it a shame that in today's miserable economy - with $12 million in cuts to the education budget in my Florida county alone - that anyone would try to block another from making a donation to such any educational outlet, much less one with which they are personally affiliated?! Frankly, it seems un-American.

Waiting for someone to call in and complain again.....3....2....1.....

Hey David, I heard it's a contractor that posts on this board!!! I'm talking with a St johns county school PTO about donating pressure cleaning for their school. They are aware of the email the district sent out. They said the contractor that filed a protest also copied your post and emailed it to the county. Many business donate service and material to the schools and have for years, I would hate to see this being stopped with the budget cuts the school district have had.
Could this be the contractor that was caught stealing chlorine and in banned from the supplier in his town?

David, same thing happened to me here. Now I just go out about 5 am 2 or 3 days of the week before shool starts and do the cleaning and don't tell anyone. I only take care of the cleaning for my daughters school though. I dont think what I do is quite the scale that you do.

Yes Mike, it is the contractor from the city of ______ ______ that I suspected as I just saw a copy of the email chain. I will be doing the rest of this type of cleaning "off the boards" as it isn't fair to the schools after facing such budget cuts. I am cleaning more and more in the city of ______ ______ as just this week I cleaned a bank branch and a residential roof, as well as a 225,000 s.f. tile roof job for a high-end condo complex earlier this summer (that is leading to another potential large job down there).
