Hole in pump case?

This is a cropping from a photo I saw of a pressure washer pump. I can't give too many details about it, but I was hoping somebody else could get a look and give me their opinion. There's something between two ribs on the pump case that might just be a chip in the paint. Then again, it looks kinda like it could be a hole that wasn't there when it left the factory.

I'm hoping it's something that belongs there, and it's just that the paint around the edges of it has gotten a little worn.
BTW, it's not my machine. Honest. :D

Hmm, I hadn't thought of it being something coming from within. My first thought was that maybe someone had put a .22 round into it or something. Like maybe a neighbor thought the owner was running it at the wrong time of day. :D

The owner had reported a problem with it, and now says it's working again. I thought I might have spotted a reason why it didn't seem to have any pressure.

Thanks for the input.

Not real assuring for something the seller wants almost a grand for, is it? In a week or so, I should have an answer from him as to what his mechanic said about why it wouldn't produce any pressure before. I think it'll turn out to be "it runs perfect" only as far as the engine is concerned.

Big brass ones, he might have. Caveat emptor and all that.

Thanks, Paul.
