How many offer fleet washing

The regular paycheck of commercial is good compared to resi. Evening and weekend work isn't as attractive. Fleet work takes more $$ to get started than resi/flatwork does so that is the major reason that people always start out in those fields.

PS: a $6 truck wash would be nice. We only get 75 cents for washing a straight truck! ;-)

Scott, my bro in law quit Bioclean and moved to Phoenix and the LAST THING he wanted to do was wash trucks again. He's working at Costco in the AC, so no competition from him at least. He had a hard time finding a job at first and I almost sent him over to you and Ron.

We started out doing all fleets in '01. Things were great then. People were ready and willing to pay us double what the "national chain" was charging because we actually cleaned the trucks and maintained all of the reclaim issues needed. Everything in our area crashed in '07. Over 70% of our trucks parked over a period of 30 days. The remaining 30% became more willing to pay some one a little to pretend to clean rather than our price to actually clean. It was a huge mess. We have strict waste water rules and I spent almost a year appealing fines for non compliance. It took the authorities months to believe me when I said we were no longer cleaning accounts.
In my opinion, the market in my area is still not ready to support truck washing. And, my two largest accounts have since built their own automated wash bays!

Ya Kyle, you're in a bad area with Fleetwash and SuperiorWash beating up the pricing. More and more people are only looking at how much as opposed to what they are getting for that price. Not good when an accountant is making the decisions instead of the fleet manager. Hopefully things rebound for you.

This is by far the hardest business to be in. And its a high volume business. With that being said, if your organized, understand how to wash and the chems, you can make good money. The guys that do well are hands on and throw themselves into it.

LOL. I dont agree but totally understand. All depends on how you sell your services. I love having Fleet in our markets. They make for a Great sales person.

Dave, are you subbing from them or just picking up their accounts by doing better quality truck washing?

Filled with guys that dont know how to wash and not hands on. LOL, I USED to be that guy!!!

They are at a huge disadvantage I feel, they have prices already set for them on washes they recieve from corp that range in the 5-8 dollar range. Its hard to make a 200 mile trip to do 100 units at 8.00.

I kinda feel bad for the franchise's

Would anyone who offers Fleet Washing be willing to share with me a copy of their contract? Thanks, Your time and efforts are appreciated.

Have awesome day,
Michelle

Michelle, did you get a copy of a contract? We don't use them here otherwise I would send one across.

Boy truck washing really sucks! I'm glad I dodged that bullet.. NOT! It's like Roof Cleaning, I use to do ten times the amount that I do now. I never dropped my price though, I went up. Now, I don't have to do ten times the roof jobs. How many of the job you got could you have gotten 20% more? I am one stubborn SOB when it comes to price and I always charge more than anyone tells me to. We have guys cleaning roofs for $200 and I won't touch em' for less than $380. That's an extra $180 over the competition! Triple the profit. If I don't make money I can't give money and I love to give!
