hudson float valve

Does anyone use a hudson float valve for their water tank?

Since the valve uses water pressure to shut the water flow, I was thinking of attaching it to a 3 foot section of PVC and installing into the top of 275 tote tank. Could be adjustable as to how much water you wanted to hold in tank.

Setup would be to set the float so it would shut off water at about 100 gals leaving room for excess water to enter from bypass. Just wondering thoughts on this setup?

i dont understand

a reg float valve shuts off the supply and if you run a wash unit with the unloader return going to your tank. Your not adding water when it tops out, your recirclating it.
Also a 1/2 full tank sloshes too much in travel.
Where is the excess water in bypass?
maybe im being thick headed?

Would be nice to have float valves shut the water off when my tanks fill but not possible the way I have mine set up.

I run in by-pass mode all the time, just recirculates back to the tank.

My water flows back to the tank from the unloader when not in use, and yes i use the hudson float valve. It is attached by pvc at a level where I wish it to stop , the by-pass is going to the tank so it doesnt heat up the pump head. Since it is in a loop when full it doesnt draw water from the faucet when full. In my reclaim, it shuts off the power when the tank is full, or it diverts to seperate location if i choose to.

I had a Hudson valve in my tank. It has it's good and bad points.
Good point is that I do not have to keep an eye on the tank to prevent overflowing.
Bad points are that I have had 3 now and they keep going bad on me for some reason. This has created some problems. Sometimes they do not turn back on and I run the tank down. Then have to waste time as the tanks fills. Other times, it has failed to turn off and my tank expands to the point that it looks like a VW Bug.
The biggest and most annoying thing is that I have a 230 gallon tank and the valve is installed as high as it can be. I can only get 175 gallons in the tank, before it shuts off.
I have now removed it and put it in the parts box.

i have a 250 gal

tank and i just drilled a hole in the side as close to the top as the curve would allow me. [3/4 inc spade bit}Then i just installed a reg.float valve.
it works perfectly unless you park on a down hill. Then the water is tilted away from the valve and then it will overflow. So i just turn the truck around. It fills to about 4 inc from the top.
I think they make a valve for keeping swimming pools full from a garden hose. When water level falls from evoperation it allows the garden hose to run untill iy hits a level then shuts it off.
Might look into those.
i dont run the unloader back to the tank because i use upstream soap but if i did there is plenty of room to recirclelate the water.

Alan, you have to take apart once in a while a clean it out, calcium deposits. Clean again when you are done with an oil to recondition the rubber part otherwise they become britle and stop working properly
