Hunting pics

i've cleaned the hoods in Madison. I'll never do that again the jail took all my tools away, and threw me in there with the rest. They only left me 3 stink'n hand towels.

Doh!! Fife you posted in the wrong thread...

I only shot 2 squirrels and a blue jay once. I think I shot a dove once too. All as a youngen. I do not like shootin critters, I like fishing. I used to go bow fishing the big carp in the lake on the mountain. I guess I'm a sissy.

Videos??? Man, I wish I could get the footage a friend of mine had of North Carolina hog hunting. All taped. Pretty brutal, not really my thing. Anyways, they run these big 500lb hogs with about 10 hounds until they get the hog surrounded/cornered. Hounds are going nuts. Everyone once in a while, a hound would get in too close, all you'd hear is a yelp and you'd see a dead hound fly about 10 feet into the air and land on the ground.

About 30 yards to each side were guys standing out of the view. Finally some redneck would yell, "let 'em loose!!" and from both sides you saw two pit bulls come flying in like a flash of lighting and just plow into the boar. Eventually, they'd kill the boar. Sometimes he'd kill another dog or two. After the event, the tape showed the pit bulls sitting on the trucks all tore up, just chillin' with huge gashes that the owner were stitching up. Make you think twice about crossing paths with one of those hogs.

What do you do with them after the hunt?

When good hunts go bad dang...(in my Joe Dirt voice)

I use a Savage 24F...it's a .223 on top and 12 gauge shotgun on the bottom. It's the ultimate Coyote calling gun. If they hang up outside of about 60 yards, they get the .223 and if they come inside that...well, let's just say #4 Buck is not their friend. I had just got my rifle for Christmas and I wasn't really use to it yet. It has a little switch on the trigger to switch from rifle to shotgun. I keep the lever on shotgun because you never know where those little suckers are gonna come from. Well, this one came from about 600 yards away and I watched him all the way in through the scope. However, I forgot to switch it off of shotgun and onto rifle, then I got all mixed up becuase of the excitement of it all and needless to say......DON'T LOOK THROUGH THE SCOPE WHEN IT'S ON SHOTGUN!!!! I still got him, but man did I have one heck of a headache

Here is my little hunting buddy...I think she was 3 at the time of this picture....

I can't wait until she's about 6 and can sit still long enough to watch a coyote come jogging in to the call. She already practices on the calls...:)

NOW THATS WHAT I AM TALKIN ABOUT

Buck season starts September 30, ends Oct 11, we have 3 tags. Doe starts Oct 13, ends oct 22, we have 1 tag, the area is 90 % private. Bull starts Nov 4, ends nov 12. I have upland bird tags, & may do some fly fishing. My girlfriend, her daughter, & I put in for separate tags. That way, if 1 of us gets a tag, we all go. We all shoot .308s, I take the 12 gauge, we take pistols. We take .22s for the kids, and do some shooting with them. We take the 2 kids, make a family excursion of it. This year my son may go with us and take his son. We set up the wall tent, the wood stove, bunk bed, the carpet, the sound system, the lanterns and after cuting some firewood, we lay back. The tent is 10 x 16.5 w/5 foot sidewalls. We play games, read and just relax. The best time is when the snow falls, and the temp drops to below freezing at night. The coyotes howl. Now we have wolves in our hunt area, mabe we will hear them. Grandson Dakota & I will take the mountain bikes and do some riding. I do have a gun rack for the bike. Grandaughter Destiny will do some cooking for us. Sometimes we will even go out a hunt a little bit. But we never, never shoot something the first few days. If we get an animal too soon, we have to go home. We are at the stage where we may take aim, and decide taking game is just too much effort. We will set camp up at a location where we have camped before. Just above a meadow, under a small hill, at the end of the road. The most important thing about choosing a campsite is to check the cell phones for reception. If we can get cell service in camp, we move. 10 days in camp does wonders for my attitude. Dee will take the camp trailer to camp on Sunday, while I go install a hood and fire system. On the 28, we go to camp. Camp will stay set-up until November 13, then we take it down. Breaking camp is always sad, we know it will be a full year until we are in hunting camp again. One of the nice things about living in Eastern Oregon is that people will call for service. I will tell them we have tags and they immediatly say, take care of it when you get back.

Fall is the best time of year. Friday we had snow down to about 5,000 feet.
I've already had a wood fire in the shop.

Anthony, that must be on the East side of the mountains in the High Desert. The range & basin country is the best part of the West. I feel sorry for those who do not live close to the country.

Douglas....sounds like a lot of fun sir. There is nothing like getting out there with the family and relaxing. I'm with you about the cell phone thing, if I have service then we're way too close to civilization :)

That picture is up around Bishop, it is absolutely gorgeous up there. I have some great pics of some other places too. A place called Kennedy Meadows where we hunt for bear and sometimes deer. I'll hold the rest of the pics until after the season though....sorry I don't know who's reading this and I ain't giving away my spots :D
