Insurance Claims/The good and ugly

I would love to hear from the long time roof cleaning guys about their experience with insurance claims. Do you find your insurance steps up to the plate and helps or do they attempt every possible angle to slide out of the equation? Having insurance is great and necessary, but it is also frustrating when you have a claim and they weasel out of it. What is your experience?

Bob what type of claim are you referring too ? Most contractors insurance will not pay for damage done to the dwelling they are working on , you need an umbrella policy added that covers all of what you do, if you have standard liability you may not be covered for all that you think.

If you damage a home that you are working on it may not be covered only adjacent structures and people may be covered , you could have to pay even with insurance

Insurance Claims

I was afraid of that. My father-in-law had a business that waterproofed basements. Great idea but didn't work. On one job he caved in the wall of a house he was working on. Of course his insurance did not help. I was just wondering what type claims do our policy cover. I took your advice and Che Che set me up with a General Liability Policy. I am sure it is similar to other pressure washing policies. Does it pay for anything, or has it come through for anybody in our line of work?

If you just have a general liability policy, you would be amazed at how little it covers! I learned this when I tried to make a claim. Talk to your agent, they can explain everything to you and what is covered. If they can't, get a new agent! I put very little faith in the protection of my general liability policy.

Bob if you're with Walters they offer care, custody and control coverage, that covers the surface you are working on.

Give them a call to clarify.

I had to put in a claim recently for killing a koi fish and 3 gold fish that were 11 yrs old. The ins company got right on it. Investigated about koi and gold fish, Took pics of the crime scene, Did recorded statements at different times and locations with the client and myself and worked out a settlement. So far all is good. Mine is $800.00 or so per yr. for 1 million. I'm happy with them so far. Good friendly people and easy to deal with.:)

Larry, what company are you insured by and is this an umbrella policy?

My agent is Patrons Ins agency Inc.
My actual Ins co is American Vehicle Insurance company.
Call me dumb but I've heard the term umbrella policy but I'm not sure what it means. If you could explain it I should be able to tell you if it is or not......Or not! Lots of pages to this thing and I know very little about Ins except that I pay for it every month! LOL:)
