Kerosene vs Diesel

When I picked up my new / first hot water rig they have it set up to burn kerosene. What difference is there between using kerosene or diesel other than the price? Does kerosene burn cleaner or hotter? Diesel is more readily available here. Some stations have kerosene but you have to know where to get it.

Hello Doug,

In our White truck we have a Kubota engine that runs our pressure pump and 8000 watt generator. We run it on Amoco’s Premier fuel. It is said to burn even cleaner than kerosene.

We have one tank and run the burner and the engine on this fuel. Works great.

This is Off Road fuel. You cannot run it in your truck because there is no road use tax on this off road fuel.

Kerosene will burn cleaner than diesel and have less cold weather related problems, however you can get more btu's out of diesel.

Dave What is That a Chevy 350 on a pressure washer pump.. And all the pulleys are so clean and shiney.. I remember when My Whitco was pretty.. Thats a nice set up.. We used kerosene one time in a northstar elec we rolled this little machine into a hospitol and cleaned about 12 hoods. We vented it by setting under the other hoods one at a time .. Of course this was way back in the day... Now when we Clean UMC we just run about 350ft of hose .. We lose a little heat and pressure off the big whitco machine but it is still enough to clean the hoods.. A buddy of mine runs kerosene because he says it doesn't Carbonize the coils... But hey thats why they make Coil Cleaner..

Hello JohnB,

On this unit we are using a 48 Hp Kubota liquid cooled engine.

We use a Chevy 350 on the system in the back of our other truck. In this picture you can see the engine sitting on top of the water tank.

Thanks JohnB,

We have had that engine in service for a little over 11 years now. It currently has about 6800 hours on it and we have not been into the engine yet. Runs on Lp at 1800 Rpm. Operates a 45 Kw genset.

Here is a picture of the outside of this unit.

Diesel burns hotter.

Kerosene was originally made for whick lamps.
In colder climates it actually burns better but, under normal conditions it is not as efficent as diesel fuel.

Diesel vs. Kerosene

Hey, I spent several years working with and selling these products in the frozen tundra, if you will. Heavier fuels produce more power/heat (btu's). Kerosene burns cleaner, but #2 heating oil (so called "off road diesel fuel") is heavier and produces more heat and or power, if running in a vehicle. My pressure washer has a beckett burner on it and calls for kerosene, but I run the off road diesel in it unless it's cold and there is a danger of the fuel gelling. In this case, I will cut the fuel with kerosene. One final note, kerosene does not provide the lubrication that diesel fuel does.

Hope this helps.
