Low PSI

My pressure has dropped it is supposed to be 4.5gpm@3500psi and running my same tips on the wand and surfacecleaner, yesterday I noticed the Gauge was only reading about 2000psi. I mean it still cleaned real well did not even have to go slower with the surface cleaner only place I noticed anything wrong was on my pressure gauge.

Oh yeah just remembered this was a brand new pressure gauge just out of the box yesterday morning, Is it possible it may just be a bad gauge? If not any other suggestions on what I should check on my machines?

Oh yeah, if theres a problem take the three large bolts off the head of the pump. behind these bolts are packing. sometimes things get stuck in there and can cause you to loose pressure. clean your filter before the pump, make sure its not sucking air. make sure nothing is restricting water flow into the pump. something in the tank or kinked hose.

man, wiz where are you?

Andrew, Was the pressure drop just with the surface cleaner? You should be using tips on your surface cleaner rated at 2.5 orfice with that machine. If you are using two tips rated at 4.5 that means you are running the same as a 9.0 tip because you have two tips. This will make your pressure drop. If you don't follow me just give me a call.

No Steven...
As I said I was using the same tips in both the wand and the surface cleaner that I always use, I changed nothing except the new pressure gauge I installed. And as I said previously there was no change in the functionability of any of the equipment everything cleaned great as usual just noticed the gauge showed only 2000psi with either the gun or the surface cleaner. Gonna run some test today as I was unable to yesterday because it rained all day yesterday I did not get to mess with it yet gonna try another gauge first just in case I picked up a faulty one.

Maybe the gage is right and you have been running at that pressure for awhile and you don't notice a change because there isn't a change. If the hose is vibrating check your valves or your water inlet screen for debris. Maybe it is just time to put in new packings and valves. Is your engine RPM too slow? Most washers run at about 3400 RPM. If it is too slow you will loose pressure. Also after a machine is ran for awhile the unloader spring gets weak and you may just need to adjust your unloader up a little bit to get your pressure back up there. If you can count to three before you hear it release it is set too high for the tips you are using. Worn tips can also cause perssure loss. Try using a new tip and see if that helps. Try a #4 nozzle on the wand and 2#2's on the surface cleaner.

Maybe you've always been running at that psi since you've had the machine.Would it be impossible to imagine some manufacturers state psi/gpm that aren't exactly accurate? Imagine that *smile.Has anyone ever seen 5gpm 3500 psi 13 horse power(or similar) advertised?.....can it be done?.If so for how long maybe it's just that. If I read you right you never did say that you had checked your equipment with a pressure gauge before now. Shame on some people(manufacturers) *smile.

Sorry for the cynicism but I just love the ads 3500 psi and k-7 unloader. Why don't ya just sell me something bound to break tomorrow.

Lucky for us there's a group of honest people here

Keep on cleanin

Yes I'm sure it is has not just always been that way, I said it was just this way with the new gauge. With my previous gauge tha broke everything was good it was reading 3100 under load and spike at about 3400, it was when I put the new gauge on it showed I dropped 1000 psi but I could not see any difference in the cleaning capability of the machine.
