Need some input on cleanig large areas

GR WASH GUY

New member
Hello, I am new to this site and I am in the process of bidding a job that is approximately 122,000 square feet of 8" block wall. The wall is to be repainted. Since I have never bid a job of this size, what would be a realistic amount of square footage I could do per hour. I would say that 75% of the building is wide open, whereas the rest will be working around truck docks. I will have to use a lift, because the walls are 32' feet high. Any help would be very helpful. Thanks

is that 3,812 linear feet of 32 foot tall block wall made of 8" blocks?

maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but I think you should be figuring linear foot, not square foot...around $1/ linear foot is pretty standard around here

$1 a linear ft only applies on one story houses ANT.

I would need the actual linear of the walls so I can do the math with the 32' heigth to give a sq ft price.Lift rental and working off the ground, purchasing safety gear etc all factor in.

The linear feet of the building is approximately 4000', with 32' foot walls which give an actual total of 128,000 sq'. I was thinking the best way to come up with a amt. per square foot would be to figure out how long it would take to do an area say 20x50 and then go from there. Say for the sake of conversation I can do that in 1 hour, my rate divided by 1000 would then give me a square footage price, am I correct in my thinking? Then figure the price of lifts, safety gear, etc.., and add that in on top of labor costs. As I said I have only residential jobs so your help is much appreciated.

Do you have to remove paint?

Is the paint flaking?

How many guys on the job?

How many rigs?

What's the flow rate for your machine(s)?

What's the water supply situation?

Do you have to fully recover or can you berm to grassy areas?

In one case you are talking about X-Jetting TSP and bleach then rinsing. No lift required. You can do that for under $10 g's.

For a full on paint removal and reclaimation of lead based paint you can be talking $75K plus.

More details are needed.

There are some areas where paint is flaking, it is not a total paint removal, just the loose flaking paint, I actually met with the painter and his Sherwin Williams paint rep today and asked about TSP and the paint rep suggested a product that he carries which would not have any negative reaction with the paint, now I am not sure that TSP would not be compatable with the paint especially since I am going to be doing alot of rinsing, however I am not so sure I want to risk it. As far as equiptment, I am an owner operator, it is just me, no employees, so that means one powerwasher. My machine is 4 gpm at 4,000 psi. Water is available on site.

The painter that I am working with is someone whom I have worked with for several years, basically doing all of his prep work for his outside paint jobs. He is giving me a price for the painting and I am submitting the whole bid. As you can tell, this is a big undertaking for me and while I am excited for the opportunity to bid this job, I am a little bit nervous. Just getting my foot in the door with this company is a big step forward. I am thinking .12 cents a square foot, however I have not been quoted a price on the detergent from Sherwin Williams yet.

Thanks again for the input

Whats in the solution from Sherwin Williams. As long as the paints are compatible with sodium, you can use hypochlorite, phosphate, or metasilicate (which is probably what they will sell you at very inflated rates).

I think you'll be okay at $.12. Figure on outputting about 1200-1600 s/f per hour if there is flaking paint.

Thanks for your help, I came up with .13 per square foot, so I think I am going to run with that and hope for the best, although I am still waiting to hear back from the Sherwin Williams rep. I agree with the fact that it will be an inflated price however if I don't use the product then they won't guarantee the paint so the painter tells me.

Thanks for all of the input, it is nice to know that there are people out there willing to help. Much appreciated!!!!!
