need water tank advice

i've got a 16 foot trailer with a 500 gallon leg tank on it. right now the tank is sitting long ways on the trailer. { parallel}. i would have more room with it sitting crossways over the axle. does the direction of the tank have any effect on water movement? there are no baffles only the legs of the tank.

Most set ups I am familar with have them across and a little in front of the axle. This allows for more room and better tongue weight.

I like mine better sideways. I hate huge surges when i am in a panic stop

I would mount it across too. I have used them bowth ways and across is the best way. The water at 1/2 tank will hit hard, and you will feel it while you are moving if you mount it the long way. Mine is mounted about 6" behind the rear axle because my PW weights about 1200lbs so when its full the trailer is pretty level and empty its level and i dont get too much sway.

15 years of trial and error, we have used them every which way and turned sideways dead center of the axles is the best way, Nicole is right too as long as you are running only one washer, we run multiple washers so no need for any extra tounge weight.

+1 Sideways is much better.

For the past 1.5 year, we have had only 1 job that required all tanks (700gal total) full with water and yet there was an option to not fill up. How often do you guys need to have your tanks full with water?
I've seen my competitor do shopping centers with full water tanks (4x400gal), they don't supply water on the plaza. 4 machines 4 tanks, 3-4 people crew, HUGE trailer with 2 dully axles, huge Chevy 3500 duramax. They work as fast as hell. I personally wouldn't go that way for numerous reasons.
I am talking here only commercial flat work.

Thanks!
