New Roof Cleaning Pump!

I know a lot of guys use 12 volt pumps (surflow, Delevan etc...) and up until a few months ago I had been using only Sureflow Pumps for all my Roof Cleaning Jobs. This is the newest Comet pump they make. I didn't want to post anything about this pump until I knew for sure how well it worked. It's got a max of 4gpm @ 220 psi and works like a champ. So far I've done at least 30-35 Tile and Shingle Roofs as well as using it for other various applications and have had 0 problems with it.

Are any of you guys using any other kinds of pumps for Roof Cleaning other than 12 volt pumps? Post up some pics and let us know how well they are working. Roof Cleaning Season is just about upon us and I'm sure some of the guys who Clean Roofs would interested in what works best...Including me...:)

My surflow is about to die, I would like to upgrade to this what did this set you back and where did you get it
Thanks for the info Larry

The pump comes with the gearbox and I had the 5.5 Honda already. It had a Cat Pump on it. The new Comet bolts right up to the Honda engine.
The whole thing ran me $700.00
The supply line is hooked to a ball valve on my chem reel so that all I have to do is switch the valve and I can still use my sureflow whenever I want for smaller applications. Kinda like having the best of both worlds. :)

What HP are you turning it with?
Its a 5.5hp Honda engine. I have the regulator set down low and try not to mess with it. I normally turn down the rpms on the machine. If I don't the wand wants to fly out of my hand. Hahaha!

So the new pump has a bypass on it?
Yes it's got a bypass line. I do alot of manuvering especially on Tile Roofs and need to shut the ball valve off alot. Thank God for the bypass!

That is a nice pump... How long does it take you to do a roof with it?
So far on average it takes aprox 30-45 min to Clean a 2000sq ft Tile Roof. We normally go over it at least 2 times. One good heavy coat and then a lighter coat for touch ups. Shingle Roofs are even faster providing we can walk the Roof. The Shingle Roof I posted in another thread tonight was just under 2000sq ft with the garage and even with it being as black as it was it only took me 25 min to coat it. It actually took me twice as long to Do her House Wash.

Great question, Hey Larry it looks like you do have a bypass on it ? If you do does it soap up your tank?
That is a good question. I have noticed more suds in my tank but it's been a good thing. The bypass line seems to keep my mix agitated and it seems to coat the Roofs better.

Careful there Larry!!
YEA! It took me 4 minutes instead of 2. :D
Hahaha! Pat your killin me! I actually had to go back and read what I wrote.

sweet larry...just like you,

how about a comet model number? is this the one offered by northern tool?

rando

Hey Randy, Actually it's the same model # mc-16 The one on the northern tool web page shows the older model. They had a lot of problems with the regulators on them and when they went out I believe that was it. The newer one has a replaceable regulator and runs about $30.00. I was told that under even extreme conditions it should last at least a year. Time will tell!

Great info Larry, I will check into that pump for other applications as well as roof cleaning. Great thread! Thanks everyone else for asking great questions and to you , LArry, for taking the time to answer them.

Larry - did you get that pump repaired YET ?

I think he did, we started with one of the "older" MC-16's. It lasted about a year. I think I actually may have been the reason it went to the grave.
Once it is setup, just leave it alone.
