Hi everyone, Daniel Here.. Just joined the board, looking for some information in this field. I've been considering starting my own "small" pressure washing business for side work while not on shift. I live in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area & it seems as though this could be a decent little job.

I see people using the big, high dollar stuff. For what I'm looking to do, would the typical $400-500 pressure washer get the job done for me? I'm just looking to do regular sized residential homes, & maybe driveways.

I think I've seen insurance mentioned as well - is this something I'm going to need if I plan on washing someone else's house?

I've got a ton of questions, but those will come out eventually. Perhaps some of you might be able to point me to some other reference points for more learning/answers.

Hey Daniel,

Insurance is definetly important expecially if your working on someone elses home. Now equipment, I'd suggest looking through ebay and the bbs for used equipment and make sure whatever you buy has at least 4 gallons per minute. Pressure doesn't matter as much as most people think. Let me know if you have any other questions.
 
Hey Daniel. Welcome to the group. You have started off on the right foot by visiting this board and spending time to do research. I started Power Washing about 4 years ago. Part time then and part time now (plan to go fulltime after military retirement). As to your question, I tend to agree with Henry. GPM is more important than PSI. You don't have to spend a fortune to get into the 4.5 GPM range, but do yourself a favor and research and compare before you spend big bucks. Insurance is a must. You may be able to get by without it for a short time, but sooner or later it'll catch up with you. Also continue to use this or any of the other boards to learn. Good luck and God Speed.
 
Thanks for the replies!! For the insurance, if I call State Farm or any other Agent, will they know what I need or is there something specific I need to ask for?
