newbie question

4000 psi machine
3 nozzle surface cleaner
4000 divided by 3 is 1333 and some change
Does this mean that my surface cleaner hits the concrete with 1333 psi?

hmmm, not sure exactly.
it's the stock ones on the BE whirlaway 24 inch.
I found a site that looks like it may have come with 1/4 inch, 25 degree tips but i don't think that tells you anything, I might just have to look in the morning

"Welded Steel 3 Arm Rotary Spray Bar
•Has three # 2.0 @ 25° meg nozzles; rated to 8 GPM & 4000 PSI"

What's the flow rate of your machine?

It's the water volume (GPM) that is divided by the number of nozzles, not the pressure. Your psi at the nozzle is going to depend on the water volume (GPM), the pump's working pressure (in this case 4000 PSI), and the size of the orifice(s) (in this case #6).

Your pressure stays the same, only the flow (gallons per minute) changes with how many nozzles you have.

If you have 8gpm and 2 nozzles you have 4 gallons per minute per nozzle, pressure always stays the same.

If you have 8gpm and 4 nozzles, you have 2gpm per nozzle and the pressure always stays the same. Yes, it is this easy.

Assuming 4 gpm with three nozzles, since you can't buy 1.3 nozzles(I think) you will have to use those three #2 nozzles and that would be producing roughly 1780 psi of pressure hitting the surface.

General rule of thumb is 4 inches per gallon of flow and 2 gallons per minute out of each nozzle for efficient cleaning. That would be 1.33 gpm. 1780 can still clean concrete well, if you make your cleaning solution a little hotter. But I think you would get better results with 2 nozzles on a 4 gpm machine and at the most a 20" bar.

Thanks Ralph. So, assuming 4 GPM at 4,000 PSI.

The nozzle size for one nozzle would be an 0.040. Since the SC nozzles are 0.020 and there are three of them, PSI would be around 2,600?

His flow rate per nozzle would be 1.33 GPMs per nozzle. That's low. Isn't 1.5 GPMs considered to be a minimum? And at 21" I'd think you would need 2 GPMs.

Jeremy, I think a 2-bar/nozzle machine would be the way to go.

thanks guys.
yea it's 4 gpm.
I've got a 19" with 2 nozzles and it definitely cleans better and faster than my 24" 3 nozzle, but I just got that siamese kit from russ so I'll be running 8 gpm next week winky face
