No start

Will start when I cross the posts on the solenoid.

Battery is fully charged,no wires grounded, all connections solid. 110v machine w/18 hp vanguard. This is the 3rd time in as many months I have had a no start. The last 2 times I replaced the solenoid and all was fine for a short time.
Am I missing something or are the solenoids I'm getting crap?

P.S.It will start if the solenoid posts are crossed.

Get a new solenoid!

Vince the starter was replaced late last year....had it checked, are you serious there isn't anyone around here who has clue when you show up in their small engine shop with a hot water skid. I do all the work myself if someone can tell me how I will check it.

Really Chris thanks for the sage wisdom as if I didn't already know it was going to need another new solenoid. That doesn't fix the fact it will need another one in a month.I'm trying to fix the problem not keep putting band-aides on a gaping wound.

Is your ground cable fastened directly to the engine, or is it frame grounded?

Bingo, wire loose on ground to starter. We know its to frame.

Scott did you touch up that rust when you replaced the starter , my guys will wire brush that repaint and then call and say it doesn't start. I have to tell them get the wire brush and knock the paint off.

Well lets hope it's that easy or loose or bad wire. And the wire can go bad. That also makes sense since when you change start it's always good just to replace new wires. Moving the old ones cause the bridle to break. Thus also causing a poor ground.

Grounded to the engine
I'll check there and replace the solenoid

Just replace the wire first! They get brittle and you just said you change starter. The wire is likely what made the starter fail.
