Hello all. I am a small business working in a fairly wealthy neighborhood. I provide snowplowing, pressure washing, window washing, gutter cleaning and handyman services.

I am looking to learn more about pressure washing , equipment and detergents. I have done parking garages, tennis courts, pool decks, homes and walkways. I have experimented with detergent bought at home depot and lowers. My only notable machine is a John deere 3800 psi 4 gpm big box store bought unit. I am looking to get a more professionals unit with around the same psi amd gpm. Possibly a skid mount in the back of my pick up. I am also looking to invest in a large surface cleaner with a wand attached to it. Which led me here.

I am looking forward to my education here so that come spring, I got more tricks to the trade underneath my belt!

Thanks for all the valuable info!

Mike

don't waste your time on the detergent's sold at home depot.
Most are ineffective, at best, but you're paying for the label, not the product.
Home depot is good for certain things, pressure washing chemicals isn't one of them.

I know it a long way but if you could go to Doug Rucker School you would learn so much including what type of equipment to be getting.

I think he might have online classes.
Or I've at least heard him talk about it

Wish i could travel but right now I have a snow business to run. I got commercial and residential accounts running four trucks and a handful of shovel guys. Then my busiest part of the year is spring. Usually work 6-7 days a week getting houses cleaned up. So learning on the internet would be best. I hope to figure out what the best detergent are for each surface and figure out a machine that is best for what I am doing. I found a skid mounted Kodiak machine anybody heard of Kodiak?

Look through the forums here and other sites such as the UAMCC, 98% of what I learned, I learned from these guys.
The other 2% was by going to our local pressure washing suppliers, and asking questions.
I believe there is a chemistry section as long as an equipment section which is full of tons of useful info.
I could tell you what detergents to use, but you still wouldn't know the proper method to wash things.
I'm not trying to be rude or withhold information, but it's best to seek out this information for yourself as you'll learn much more along the way.

The Place to learn! Online Classes available. End discussion :)

I found someone locally to ask questions and he is my local competition. So far i have used sodium hypoclorite, sodium hydroxide, f18 gutter grenade, r202 from powerwash.com, oxalic acid, purple power, simple green, dawn, and others.

I upgraded my pump to a cat. So now its a direct drive Honda 13 horse with a cat pump. 4000psi and 4gpm. Picked up a quality turbo nozzle with inline filter and chucked my old one. Added a wisper classic large surface cleaner and some more hoses.

I am also building a trailer now.

Business is good and i am having fun. I wish all my spring and summer work was pressure washing!
