Hello folks. Newbie, first time poster here. I've been reading for a while, (great info, trying to sort it out), and I'd like to ask a question about the Northstar 3500psi, 4gpm, 13hp honda, general triplex pump, belt driven cold H2o maching that Northern Tool sells for about $1799. Any opinions on the machine or components? I am a window cleaner seeking to add pw'ing to the services I provide for clients. Looking to perform purely residential service at this point (siding, decks, walks). I'm not taking any business away from pw'ers here, as they are few, ergo, a niche I can fill. I appreciate your constructive comments...thanks, and please forgive any breach of protocol or format in this post.

I know nothing about pricing on cold water units now, but I can tell you I bought a similar machine FIVE YEARS AGO for a hundred dollars less, and that was from a local dealer, which are usually more expensive.

I would do some serious shopping around.

Dont get hung up on the psi, the gpms are more important. No less then 4 gpm's...........but 3000 psi would be fine.
 
I have basically the same pw from Northern but it has a cat pump. The pw runs very well and has both a commerical grade honda engine and commerical pump. I email Cat to confirm this on the pump.

The machine runs and performs well with no problems. Most of the other commerical grade pw are a lot more.

The one that I have has an 8 gallon tank, belt drive pump, hour meter, electric start, idle shutdown and again it is a commerical grade unit.

The catlog number is 15940-c176, I don't think you will find one with the same features for less.

Thanks for the responses so far guys. I plan to shop around for best price and service. Mel, my local home depot sells Excell direct drive units but nothing belt driven. However, I guess I just missed a refurbished 13hp Excell out of the paint dept. for $500. Not what I was looking for, but for what I will use it for, and the money....I'll keep my eyes open.

I would talk to Mark at Easy Clean Systems. His number is 1-800-292-3279. I bought a 4 gpm 3500 psi 13hp unit from him last year. Honda engine, cat pump, and it was belt drive. It was $1199 and $99 for shipping. $1298 sent to your door. I use this as my back up machine. You could probably save $500 talking to Mark vs. Northern Tool. You can get 4 gpm, 4000 psi, 15 hp(Kohler), AR pump, direct drive units at Sam's for $1000 but I would rather go with the belt drive.
 
I've always used belt drivin, check around , check the papers , talk to people , I help a guy get his used hot water washer going one day , it came with a trailer and 525 gallon tank , he paid $1,000 for it , this is rare but there are some bargins out there.
