O-rings for Quick Couplers

Buna-N o-rings suck for anything more than 2000psi cold..
everybody knows you want Viton for QC's to last at all,
and any upgrades in a pump system that use O-rings in a "moving" position.. are better off with Viton.

Now that 4000psi is more the industry standard for delivering water through long lengths of hose,
and more applications are requiring 5000, 6000, and more pressure,
.. and temperature are going all the way to full steam..
O-rings in QC's have become a real P.I.T.A. topic.. Ask anyone that goes over 220 degrees at over 3500 psi

My question is..
Who has tried Silicone, Urethane, or other version O-rings in these abusive applications ?

..and What were the results you got ??

Maybe a southern thing but we were using Viton in everything and they continued to fail, we switched back to Buna and they seem to last as long if not longer than Viton. We were continually replacing the Viton Brown orings almost every few days and the Buna last for weeks, this is at 3000 to 3500 psi and no more than 200 to 220 degrees.

I have noticed hose reel o ring swivel failure is terrible though. We have had probably over a dozen Summitt reels and all of them had the internal orings blow out withing a couple of days when using heat, we simply replace them with Super Swivels and the problem is solved.

I have struck with black also. Years ago I got pretty upset because the brown would not last as long when using hot water or just don't last as long period and a little more difficult to remove. I still pop one in once in awhile just so I get get mad.

silicone o-rings ??
Urethane ??

Before Simpson Pressure washers were bought-out and reduced to rubble..
they had proprietary Quick couplers that were amaaaazing ror reliabilty..
they had enxtended nipples so the socket supported them firmly.. NO wobble !
...and they had urethane o-rings.. they were Amaaazingly reliable, but I don't remember how well they took heat.

Same here, the viton just don't seem to last with the heat so I just use the Black Buna O-rings in the couplers and they last a while.

Most brands of swivels that have those cheap brass swivels start to leak within a week or less.

Some reels I just use the hose reel for storage because on some jobs I just drop the hose, move the trailer then re-connect to the jumper and start up again without having to roll up the hose and then unroll.

On the hose reels that I do use the swivel, it is a Super Swivel and they last a long time.

Super swivels seem to last us about 2-3 months. Others have an even shorter life. I use Viton rings, but I use black Viton. For some reason, they just seem to last longer.

EPDM sure seems tough in many applications, maybe there's an o-ring made out of it?

EPDM orings are commonly available. They are worse then BUNA when it comes to durability.

next time you get a swivel for a reel let me know I want you to try the legacy one. I have found them to outlast the super swivels by a longshot. But I run a lot of brightner through them...

Were they anything like these Jerry? http://shop.powerwashstore.com/11000PSI-Quick-Coupler-Plug-1-4-fPT-1895-1895.htm

I will do that. I just got ten in, so I am good for a couple of months.
