Plants

Ok i have a couple of question on plants and bleach getting on them i havent seen it much so what exactly do we look for and how long or the effects? Will the plant die off or can you prune the affected area and have it grow back. I thought i would ask the question to see how the long term effects were i know some of you have been doing this for very long and i want to see what you have came across with grass and plants.

Typically, I will just rinse all plants/shrubs with straight water prior to and after washing the siding. I usually do the rinsing more often as the weather gets warmer, as the plants tend to need whatever they can get for water, meaning they don't care if the water they are getting has soap and or bleach in it. Haven't killed any as of yet and hope not to.

I have often thought of covering plants, but with the temperatures in South Carolina, after being covered for a few minutes, you could smoke them, if you know what I mean.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Protecting Plants From Roof Cleaning Chemical

Chris, the plants should all be wet down on the side of the house you are doing by a ground man.
It is best to keep the whole house wet.
This keeps run off from the wind off of them.
The plants MUST be kept wet as stuff drips on then.'
IOW, you must rinse it off as it drips.
Here are some pictures of unwatered plants by a local Tampa Roof Cleaner working alone.

Some Plants will just get real yellow and grow back, others will be TOAST.
IF you have damaged plants, here is what to do.
FLOOD the entire area, and Flood again, then Flood again.
This will leach any salt orr poison out of the plant beds.
Then, lightly fertilize with an ACID based fertilizer, like MIR ACID
This will help neutralize the Chlorine.
Then, prune back the dead growth, and wait.

It is BEST to Prevent this Chris by having a man on the ground watering during the roof cleaning.

I learned my lesson last week. My wife was doing the driveway, and I was doing th house wash. I figured I would save 20 minutes and only rinse during and after the job, not before. Well she called me a couple of days later and said her plants had turned black. I told her to just water them very well and they would come back, but I would come by and see just in case. When I got there the plants looked like someone had poured diesel fuel on them and let them burn...twice. I bought her new plants and had them planted for her. Only cost me $200 bucks cause they were herbs and not roses or something.

Just goes to show you, DONT CUT CORNERS! Lessons learned....
