Please help me about roof cleaning chemical and tools

YES, BY ALL MEANS PLEASE TRY AN X-JET. BY 6 OF THEM!! YES IT WILL WORK. WE ALL ARE IN A CONSPIRACY AGAINST YOU TO TELL YOU IT DOESN'T WORK SO YOU WON'T CATCH ON TO OUR SECRET.

Let me tell you what will happen, so you can look back on this post a year or so from now and can't say "I have no clue or earthly idea why I'm broke and frustrated cause people are mad at me and I am out of business". First off, you have had some of the best roof cleaners and the roof cleaning Godfather in the industry tell you an x-jet or pressure washer doesn't work....but you're stubborn and bull headed. The reason an x-jet doesn't work is that it can't draw a high enough SH mix to clean. One of my competitors is getting a HORRIBLE NAME AND REPUTATION in town because he is trying to clean them with an xjet. Will it kill some black streaks? I'm sure it will. But it isn't strong enough to kill the heavy streaks. I'm sure the weak mix will probably kill the microscopic mild spores growing on the other sides of the house you can't see, but you cannot kill the algae that causes the black streaks with an x-jet. Period. If you're that much of a bull head and a tightwad, ill tell you a MUCH CHEAPER but effective way. Use a pump up sprayer. It will work, I promise. May take you 2 days, but it will work. You will also wish you would have listened to us here when you were done, but at least you didn't waste your money on an x-jet. Yesterday was my first job with bobs kit I sent you a link to. I just bought that kit. Paid under $800. Did my first roof with it yesterday and in 2-3 hours, the kit was paid for. I walked away with a $795 check. Easy. Done. The right way.

My old friend Jeff LeCours did it, a few times he said.
Contact him, and ask how ?
I do not like X Jets, nor do I like downstreamers either, for cleaning roofs.
I take pride in trying to teach the best ways to clean a roof, not how to "improvise".
In roof cleaning, when you "improvise", it usually mean COMPROMISE, for you and your customer.

Will do, thank you very much for the info. Just starting out my company and trying to do as much as possible with the equipment I have. Will definitely look into a roof cleaning system when the time and money is right. Appreciate the help fellas.

You could always just start out with a hand pump sprayer. Just dont walk on them shingles when they are wet.
Was thinking about using a backpack sprayer but kind of cautious with all the chemical on my back. Also feel like it would take forever to cover a roof with one. All possibilities though until I can get me a dedicated roof pump.

I can't tell you how many horror stories I've read of these things leaking SH all over people and burning them in bad places. Bad idea.

I've got scars on both my forearms from like 3-4 tears ago just from leaky Hose fittings and being bullheaded trying to get a job finished. This was before I learned to "cuff" my rubber gloves. Point is roof cleaning mix is strong, it has to be to work. I sure wouldn't want it on a damn pack pack where it could leak all over me.

Here's a weird and kooky idea. No ones ever tried this in business before, so here goes....don't offer a professional service until you have professional equipment. Work harder at what you do now to save up money. I PROMISE YOU, IF I WAS DETERMINED ENOUGH, I COULD RAISE THE MONEY FOR A PROFESSIONAL ROOF CLEANING EQUIPMENT IN 2 DAYS GOING DOOR TO DOOR. You just don't want it bad enough. Take the equipment you have now and be a professional at what you have to save up money to do it the wrong way. Nothing wrong with improvising USING THE RIGHT METHODS, but your methods are all wrong. Use a pump up sprayer to do the job the right way. Is it safe? No. Is it efficient? No. Is it fast? HECK NO, but at least you will be doing it correctly. I started a pressure washing company cleaning exteriors without even owning or borrowing a pressure washer. BUT I DID IT CORRECTLY using the right methods.

No HACKS IN BAMA.....well at least not in Spanish Fort.....Cleaned more roofs already this year than
we did all of last year and a lot of metal roofs.....We are swamped (at least for now)

It's a joke, hacks are every where. Just more humorous to America when the reality tv come from the south or New Jersey. GA has a few, anyone wash honey booboos house?

Northern tool sells a sure flow knockoff "Northstar" pump for like $75. Supposed to have viton seals and everything. Don't know if they're actually any good though.

Looks simple enough...

For that price I might be buying one tomorow!

I'll probably be the first to let you know being I buy a lot of my stuff from Northern. Hell even my Pressure Washer is a "NorthStar".

I'm not sure about that pump specifically, but if it really is just a relabled shurflo pump, then it is a good deal. For the most part though, you probably shouldn't be buying pressure washing equipment from Northern Tool. Most of their pressure washing equipment is overpriced junk. You would probably save yourself a lot of money as well as have longer lasting equipment if you bought from one of the distributors here on PWI. Especially when it comes to things like quick connect fittings and nozzles. They charge about 2-3 times more at Northern Tool. The only time I buy stuff from there is if I need it the same day and I don't have time to order it.

This thread makes me cringe! The dis information and the advice on what to charge are reasons why this industry is doomed!

Don't be a hater!!! Not everyone can do 59.95 house wash any size like you.
