Hey, i started up my pressure washer the other day to check it out before a job and it sounds like it doesnt stop building pressure. I start it up and you can hear it building pressure and i give the gun a few sprays to let some pressure out and it never stops building pressure is what it sounds like. The motor seems to always be under a load? Think it is the unloader valve?? its a pressure pro honda gx390 motor with a general pump. 5.6gpm 2600 psi. any ideas???

Are you feeding from a tank? If you are, check to see if the unloader is bypassing. Can't figure out what you mean by, "sounds like it's building pressure" Is your gun leaking? Is the engine surging? How long have you had that machine? I've got the same one, hope it's not a common problem!

ive had it for exactly one year this is the first time i started it up after the winter. sooo i guess the only way i can explain it is , you know how the motor sounds when you have the trigger depressed on the gun and you are power washing, it sounds like that even when you let go of the trigger. the motor never kicks down and sounds like its not building pressure. thats the best way i can explain it i guess. i am pulling from a tank too. ill have to take the tube off to see if it is unloading

Im not exactly sure how the unloader works but i took it apart and all the seals/parts seem to be intact. i started it back up and it still doing the same thing. Not really sure what the deal is
anyone??

Do you have your unloader bypassing back to the tank? The only way it could be building pressure is if the unloader is stuck or shot. In that case I wouldn't run the thing without a pressure relief valve or you are sure that the unloader is bypassing when the trigger is not pulled. Check for leaks too, which would cause cycling of the unloader.

Pull the outlet fitting off the unloader and see if the valve is moving smoothly.

this is pretty much how mine is set up just not the same pump . it returns to the water supply inlet.View attachment 28010
If you are feeding from a tank you should definitely plumb that unloader into it. I just unscrew my manway on the buffer tank and I can see the unloader bypassing and the amount.

so youre saying to just run a longer hose off of the actual unloader into the buffer tank and put a brass plug in the hole that is on the water feed?

exactly. That is a giant plus when using a buffer tank. You don't have to worry about squeezing the trigger every two minutes. The water bypasses to the tank and never heats up. In the configuration you have now, water keeps circulating and it heats the pump up rapidly and can do damage to the pump. Here are pics of the hose coming off and going into the tank with a bulkhead fitting

I never noticed, I will look tomorrow. Do what Hal said, ask Russ for a new unloader. Don't take no chances.

yeah, Im gonna order a new one tomorrow asap. Definitely let me know on that wheel because i dont know anyone that has the same powerwasher as mine. It would be much appreciated.
