Price Breakdown

I had someone call from Harris Tetter grocery store chain, looking for cleaning the front side walk area and on the side, plus shopping carts. Cover 12 stores from Virginia Beach to Richmond, only wanting to pay 200.00 a location. In Virginia Beach that may not be bad but when driving up to Richmond area the gas will kill me. What do you veterans think.

Tell them your wanting to pay $75 for 10 bags of premium groceries, but it aint happening either and show him this photo...:bash:

Recently finished a concrete cleaning job for a contractor. Price was quoted by sq.ft.
He is now telling me the company paying him needs the price broken down by labor, equipment ect...
I told him it was broken down by sq. ft. He said that was not good enough.
How do I handle this?

Watch out Andy the guy is trying to weasle out of paying you the agreed price so he can like others say fatten his own pocket. I've dealt with this in the past and its not pleasant. One time it took me 6+ months to get this guy to pay me who subbed me out and where talking $28,000. He ruined my winter last year but come April I got paid in full... and it wasn't pretty how I wore him down for the money.

Another time I got stalled with 70% of the money owed me from another job and this company that subbed us came up with all kinds of stories and delayed me for a year and then told me to file a lean against his company if you can believe it. So I tried and it was way to late to do that..and then a few months later this company went belly up and out in the wind goes my money that was owed which was just about $5000. I had to write it off. If you believe in the goes around comes around Karma this company that hired me had a Federal contract worth $35,000,000. Many contractors like myself got screwed in the end.....but this guy now starts singing the blues and he gives up a few Politicians who hands he greased to get these jobs and bang they get locked up and convicted of stealing Fed money. Yes I'm out of that money but they sure got there's.

Before this goes much further, I would look into filing a lien both against his company and on the university and let him know after you look into this that it will not only cost him more money (for filing against both him and the university) but it will make his company look bad when the university finds out that he is not paying you and you are filing against the university.

I agree, he is trying to weasel out of paying you. Learn from what others here have been through and do something before it is too late.

I have only been burned once by a sub. for about $4k. For me its a hard pill to swallo. Now if i do work 3rd party I request .5 up front and the rest upon completion. Chances are that a guy who cant pay you .5 of the job wont wanna pay you the rest of it either.

I have a company that I occasionally sub from and they want the same thing. Really no big deal that's just the way they do things.

First of all did you file a --notice to owner--? That is alway the first step in a situation like this. You file notice to owner BEFORE you start work, this tells the property owner that you , the contractor has been hired to do services on his property, it is a very common thing done and is not looked upon coursely. Doing this will protect you from not getting paid, especially if the money is coming from any sort of State funded project.. You need to file intent to dispute payment with the University immediately. You need t make sure that the main contractor or the sub does not get paid before a valid attempt to satisfy your invoice has been made. When you send this letter make sure to imply that you will not sign off on a release of lien, however if payment is made in principle that you will sign a partial release of lien. And that being done a full release of lien is made by the cashing of the check.

And remeber that there are very specific laws that dictate how you MUST get paid from a municipality, government and in most cases a UNIVERSITY that recieves any sort of puplic $$

Playing the breakdown game is easy, break it down any way you want, but make it clear in writting that ALL larbor and material MUST be provided by you solely.
