Pump help 6gpm @ 3000 psi

This pump is 6 GPM @ 3000 PSI. Does anyone know what brand it might be. Why is it that this pump will not gravity feed but has to be hooked to a pressurized water source to pump. I would like to be able to use this pump where the water source is a poly tank. Any suggestions? Thanks

pump won't draw from a tank

yes, a General TS2021 to be exact.

It should draw just fine, but follow my posts on "dual-feeding a pump", and "tank feed" plumbing..
all your answrs are there on how and why.

If that pump doesn't draw nice.. take the valves out, and test them individually..
If you can suck air through them, they are dirty, or worn out.also look at the plastic cages..
..they are supposed to kep the valve "poppets" centered.
Check the o-rings under the valves too.. and replace them without any question. ..prefer a Viton upgrade.
If you think you don't see the problem, look closer..
any cracks in the head under the valve o-rings ??

That gear-reduction is one of the old-beefy ones.. it's a keeper !

BTW.. wear ear plugs around that motor with no mufflers..
they are spark arresters only,
and a danger to ear drums.
..and know this.. ..most power-wash-guys are half deaf from the water-spray noise anyway.

A lot of gear drive pumps and especially the direct drive pumps will not pull from tanks, just how they are because they are spinning so fast (direct drive).

You can probably swap out the pump for another that will pull from a tank, give Russ J. a call and he can help you with this.

There have been guys that tried to rig up electric pumps and all kinds of things to get those pumps to pull from a tank or have a small pump in between but that is more things to worry about and that can go wrong.

With the faster spinning pumps, there needs to be some pressure to get into the pump for it to work (garden hose pressure).

There have been some threads about this same topic in the past if you want to read and learn more about it, just search in the search box.

Rance, does it leak anywhere when you hook it to a garden hose? That gear drive should pull water just fine.
