Pump oil condition.

Does the oil appear to be okay? It looks a little cloudy to me. I'm not sure if pump oil has a tint to it or if it gets dirty like crankcase oil in a gas engine.

At one point I thought I had water in the oil, so I shut the machine down. The sight is shown while the pump is running. When it's not running the level is roughly at the 75% mark.

Oils cheap enough, just change it. Dad always said if its doubtful its dirty. I use non detergent 30 from advanced auto easily available.

Thanks, but the reason I asked is to determine if I have an internal water leak. Changing the oil is easy enough, I just want to know if I have an issue first.

I had the same thing happen, I thought I had water in the oil but when I drained it, it was good.

The Hotsy mechanic told me that sometimes the sightglass will make the oil look cloudy.

You don't want to take a chance on ruining your pump but other than draining the oil, I don't know a good way of checking the oil to see if there is water in it since the fill opening is small.

I've seen oil mixed with water. It usually turns to a milky color. Sometimes it will even turn to foam, but that may be due to the detergent in the some oils.

Haven't been able to see through the sight glass for years
