One day last week, after restarting my pressure washer I forgot to turn the water hose on. I ran all the water out of the system through 100' of hose before the pressurized spray stopped. Realizing I wasn't getting water, I quickly shut the system down. Once I got the water back on it seemed to be okay. Today while doing a job I was getting a normal surge of pressure through the gun and after running for a few seconds it lost pressure and slowed to a trickle (yes I had the water turned on and no kinks in the hose). I shut the machine down and restarted. After several tries the pressure seemed to be back to normal and I completed the job. Any idea what caused that and cautions I need to take if it continues?

You probably burned the packing. I would replace it. If you know how.
