Pwi, lost its luster…..


Opinions needed, I started this BBS a few years back and then gave it to Mike Hughes.

I started it on the premise that its was the independent contractors BBS.

Mikes done the best he can and I’m not sure that it can recover from the stiff competition out there in the field.


Should PWI stay open or should it be closed and the posts are archived?

Truthfully I would love to see Mike give someone else a chance at the BBS. Maybe some new ideas or some fresh thoughts might bring back the life the Bbs once had.

I also think the moderators that participate are great. I believe that we need some new moderators and need to remove the one that have abandoned the BBS.


We need new moderators, Mike maybe has not got the time so I will start a thread asking those who would like to moderate hears your opportunity.


Anyone’s has any thoughts or ideas please give your opinions.

Why such a question? Admittedly I know nothing about running a board, but this bb attracts the most knowledgeable people and seems to be the most active. I like it. Your post indicates an undercurrent - is this an attempt to incite discontent? Please explain.

I really feel that the site is bad; I guess the site needs some tender love and care. Mike did the job and maybe he is burned out. I know myself I don’t want the thankless job of running the site.

Maybe by asking some of the members that believe the site is still good will either step up and say I’ll do it or maybe give Mike some help.


Mike or anyone else cannot profit from PWI…… no one can and no one ever will.

I didn’t do this to hurt Mike or anyone else; we all know that Mikes moving on with a new BBS he is going to make money from this endeavor. I support Mike and for one I’m thankful for all he has done.


I have discussed with Mike about maybe having someone else take the BBS.

I want to be clear with everyone Mike controls the fate of this bbs and he can give it to someone else.

I have no problem with Mike running things I just think he needs the help of members. I recall a time when people where willing to help. I don’t see this as much.

Rj , my intentions are only top help not to tear down. Can you help? Maybe you should be a moderator.
 
Board should stay open.

I think to keep growth - this board has to focus more on helping individuals that are new in the industry. It seems that other boards are more helpful because of the possible sale of a product.
 
I like this board, although I think it has been ignored for too long, I would like to stay on as a mod, but don't know that I would have the time to invest in running it entirely. What I have suggested to Mike since he took over, was to delegate some responsibilities to the mods but he woulnd't ask (or accept) for help even when offered.
Is running the board possible with multiple "owners"? What are the time and money requirements? What are the responsibilites?
We already know that the rewards are minimal.
How about that guy Ron M. he ran a good ship? I would like to see him back in the drivers seat and I would be glad to help him wherever I can.

Keep it open for sure. I visit daily and still gain info. The Meta tags may need tweeking to get it to pop up on the search engines, I don't know what you can do on that.

The help that was offered was mostly in regard to the whole idea of verifying members, and their identities.

A few days ago, I asked if anyone would like to step up and become a moderator, and give new input to the board. No one responded to the post, and no one emailed me.

I think this is the best board out there for pressure washing. My new board will have little or no impact on this board. As a matter of fact, I think my new board will stenghten this one.

I think we need to remove a few of the mods we dont hear from too often, and get a few new ones that will spice things up a bit.

By that, I mean.......start new threads, and polls............with intriguing topics that get people talking and coming back.

That is what i need help with. I do not need help with the administration of the board, but I really need help with the content on the site. Is anyone up for it?

We have many great forums on this board that see little or no threads. Lets pump them up.


I would do some of this myself, but right now I'm pulled in a few different directions. Starting this new board is honestly taking hours and hours of my time in a day. It's really been a lot of work. Its actually going to take longer to get up then I originally thought.

Also, my wife is not feeling very well lately with her pregnancy. The baby is healthy, with no problems............but she is in pain almost every night and doesnt sleep well. That makes dealing with our four year old boy very difficult for her, so I have to help out with him more then I usually would.

I love this board and I'm not giving it up. I'm proud to be a part of it. And, while I may not be as proactive of an administrator as I could be, I think I have done a pretty good job here. The administration of this board used to be chaos. I think PWI its the best bbs out there in the industry, mostly because of the freedom. Freedom rules. Beth has done a great job, and allows a lot of freedom, but let's face it.......its still attached to a store.

So, do I have any volunteers to help out with some interesting content on this board?

Is there any distributors or manufacturers that would like to donate any items to be given as an incentive? We can create a contest of some sort.


Let's keep the ideas flowing, and positive ones please.......

Six months, has anyone noticed any improvement?
 
Well, I think the board should stay. I've offered to be a moderator in certain sections of my expertise but my offer was overlooked maybe. This board is by far the best for it's industry and I think it should stay. If it wasn't so damn slow sometimes, I think that would be better.

Opening another board I think is spreading yourself thin. Trust me, I've done it for long enough and not any more. I'd rather come here as a moderator or a participant and join in the conversation and help when I can then run my own board. On the other hand, the idea is great but it all amounts to sharing information, making a living, and hopefully patronizing those who make it happen.

Boards are time consuming. Each and everyone of us has other things we could be doing. I don't have time to give, give, give and keep on giving just for something to do and neither do many of you. Some of us have families, other interests, and many other things we do when we have spare time----if we have spare time. It takes time to maintain a board and stimulate the people who come here. It takes the right people that are knowledgeable in certain areas to keep things moving forward. But, what's forward? Just a bigger board?

Once again, I've worked all day and most the night and I've run out of time. If you'd like a moderator Mike, then just do it. I've offered before and I'll offer again. My posts are read, I can tell you that and you can see that by the views. Sometimes they aren't always agreable to everyone but they are most certainly read.

As far as donating.... for cryin out loud. No way. As a distributor for the mobile industry and some or the majority of my business is done online competing for nickles and cents.... no way. My posts are read, I donate information, but when a part or a reel or something is a nickel cheaper down the road, that's where it's purchased. I don't see any distributors stepping up offering donations..... for what, most of you do your business with people who aren't even on this board. What incentive is that?

That's my 2 cents and that's all I'm donating.... :)...lol!

Building a bigger board just to build a bigger board really doesn't accomplish anything but maybe personal gratification for doing it. A free board with no advertising is a great idea but there has to be some other incentive. Bigger board means bigger audience, bigger audience means nothing if nothing is gained. The board may have some sort of value but only for the audience and if the audience isn't supporting the board and only consuming information and not being charged in some way, then why are you all doing it? What is the board accomplishing? Someone tell me because I want to know. I see a place for "bored" people to hang out and bullshit mostly about nothing that has anything to do with the idustry. Just hangin out.

Open the suggestion forum and when I have some extra time I'd be happy to fill the post with many suggestions. One would be some sort of revenue generated so the board and it's admins and moderators will be interested in spending a little time here instead of donating just to make internet buddies.

Sorry if it sounds rash but that's what I see.

i havent been around much to see much of the topics here transpire,in my opinion the bbs should never be shut down as an option.

secondly if the bbs has continued to function properly the administrator (mike) has done his job,in my opinion.

the ratings of one bbs to another doesnt matter in my opinion,and consequently i dont know which bbs rates what.

i dont think i would be where im at if it wasnt for this board and the members,sure the members are members of other boards but this board means to me the very reason it was started and i for one would hate to lose it.
 
Well Tim I have been around here daily for about three years and have watched it grow and prosper and now sadly I am watching it flounder. I agree the rating thing is, well over rated, we all have our favorite boards and for different reasons. I personally have enjoyed this board the most, but its glory days are behind it now. I have stuck it out and done what I can. I hope that the board survives, even if only for newbies to search all the old posts to find what they need to know. Perhaps by some miracle Mike can do something to lure all the talented people that were once very active back here but in all likelyhood I think this chapter has come to an end.
 
This BB seems to be able to weather any storm. I don't see it ever dying off.
 
I must be missing something, i love this board. There is no agenda other then speaking your mind and sharing your knowledge. The rules are laid back so no one is being jumped on for posting something that the board does not agree with. As a newbie i look to this sight for valuable information and most of the time i gain information that i had no idea i was looking for. That's big for me.
