PWNA being jump started

I am still fairly new to this site. I am currently not a member of the PWNA. The one thing that I have noticed so far is that everyone on this site participates and talks about the roundtable meetings. But so far there has been hardly a word spoken about the PWNA Convention in Columbus and I guess I was wondering why? It has actually turned me away from attending even though it is in my own back yard. Plus the $300 for the 2 day and an additional $90 or so for the additional day on Thursday. But wait if you pay $300 to become a member they give you a $50 discount!!!! Really

your insane for NOT going if its in your own backyard. Take a look at the Board of the PWNA, I am willing to guess there is about 35-40 Million in annual revenue coming from that Board of Directors this year. These are the guys that have information on how to grow your business. The conventions are great ways to learn new tricks, meet new people, and learn how to grow your business.

Ryan all I can say is that hotels and meeting rooms are not free. I thought about posting the rooms for my hotel alone from the ceta show. A couple invite speakers staff and myself the room bill was nearly 5000. Two rooms for the entire week 1450 just for one. I had two of those.

Please understand it's a business, you need to determine the value for yourself.

People will have meetings this year but they won't be free. Nce was a special thing that's lasted the last three years.

I'm sceduled to have one meeting next year. Phx

Kori and nce east may have Florida again?

A RT and an organizations convention are two different animals. I've never been to ether. But I've gathered that on here. I've had conflicting schedules when they are near.

How much would you have to learn at the PWNA convention to make it worth $300-$400? Not much I'm guessing. If you're trying to grow your business it seems like it would be money well spent.

Agree. I'm not going, but if it was close I wouldn't miss it.

I would stay as far away as possible. Round Tables are free, go to them if you must.

Round tables are sometimes free of charge to the contractor but they are NOT free.

See that is what I am saying why is everyone so split

William is just contrary. I'm sure he's the only one who will say "Don't go."
He de debbil.

The PWNA convention will have good info and the networking with contractors is the key to it's success. Sure the classes are helpful especially to those just starting, but having the ability to socialize and talk shop with other contractors is where the real value lies. The opportunity to speak with or just listen in on some successful contractors-businessmen like Daryl Mirza, Paul Horsley and ... is worth the price of admission.

Each time I have attended the events I have picked up several items that I have been able to bring back and implement that have helped to make my business more successful or efficient. We are in an industry that is willing to share information I would encourage everyone to take advantage of that at every chance you get. The better educated we all are the more professional we become.

To me the PWNA seems to be on the right track with its direction and goals. There will be some bumps on the way but if we as contractors don't get involved to help steer it in the right direction we will have no one to blame but ourselves when things change that may put you out of business. GET INVOLVED. Whether it is a national organization , the local business groups, state environmental meetings, or the NCE events hosted by Ron (which by the way are stellar events, by far the best in the industry so far).

Hey Ryan--I've been to a few of the PWNA Conventions and many Roundtables. You get something out of all of them. The very least you will get and its probably the most valuable thing is that you will meet up with friends that you have made in this industry that have the same type of business that you do. They may be more successful as in size etc. or they may be a "Newbie" but either way they and you can relate best on what this business is all about.

That aside if the PWNA Convention was in my backyard I would most definitely go. The Money you spend there you'll get it back in no time when you go back to work but to understand this you would have to take the "Risk" and go to one. Your in Business because you took a "Risk" where many people don't have it in them to take that leap.

Good Luck

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I appreciate it.

I completely understand that it's a business and by no means should be a free event. I guess I was just looking for a little emotion out of you guys and well I got it. I couldn't believe all the posts upon post for South Carolina and than not a peep about the convention in Columbus. So I kind of thought that many guys in the community didn't think it was a good value for your time or money and that the roundtables were the only way to go. I really wanted to attend the last event in South Carolina, however a good customer wanted me to do a last second job. My customers come first so I missed out.

PWI is something I just discovered 6 months ago and this is the first message board I have ever been involved in. Well besides the countless Star Wars boards I belong too!!! No seriously, I really like everyones enthusiasm and support for our line of work. I completely agree that networking with one another and educating each other will only further our own businesses as well as others.

Needless to say I have changed my mind and I will be attending.

Thanks Paul, your event was great in the middle of July 2009. I was inpressed about the size and content. The live demos at your shop , well has never been repeated by any roundtable HOST!!

Burnt out? Na you just need a short break. You have the whole winter to recover all 2 weeks of it...Maybe I will do another one to re energize you. Then you can get more of my wifes good cooking.

Got ta love the logic there!

I bet it made you feel warm and fuzzy inside :cray:

I went and had a great time. Even after 20 years in business I still learned some new stuff. What other org has such established bod members that you can learn from???

Pete and I also taught the Pw 101 class

Got Photos?

Hey Henry I hope to make it back to the PWNA Convention within the next few years to hook up with those Millionaire club guys and to also see some old friends.

For Right now Kathy and I are most likely heading towards this parking garage convention in AC. We can gamble at night and then hob knob with the parking garage owners during the day. I was told today its going to cost about $200/each for us to do this but I if we do I want to go into the MAIN day to meet these guys and maybe buy them a few drinks. Will see.

Hypothetical Question- Say we start servicing Ansel systems and fire extinguishers and my guy heading up that division is a 7yr PWNA member does this make my company certified also?
