Quality Beats The Low Ball Pressure Washer

About 9 months ago I got a call from PetroLiance asking if we would be interested in bidding there fleet wash. I went out the next day for a meeting with the fleet manager . I went over what we offer and we put in a bid. Four days later I called to see if I could answer any questions about our bid and was told that they had awarded the contract to another pressure washer. I asked what there number was and about fell out of my chair $16 a truck. I did not bad mouth the bid just told them that we could not work for that and if you need us in the future please keep our information. Well 2 months ago I got a call again from the fleet manager telling me they had heard good things about Hydro Pressure Clean LLC and could I come down on our bid some. I told him were not negotiation price that what I gave him is a fair price to do his fleet. In the conversation I got how bad the guy they contracted with was doing so I suggested that they let us come out Sun. the day after his guy washed and do a demo for him on two of his trucks. Well we went out that Sunday and after washing the 2 trucks he tells me I want you cleaning my fleet and I see we get what we pay for. Today I got this email from them.

Hi Mike,
I sent these invoices to our AP department for processing. For future you can email them directly to @petroliance.com for processing. Sue will be sure they are processed and paid in a timely manner.
Thank you very much for the service that your company has been providing us by washing our trucks. I gave some feedback to Greg Wyatt yesterday and it was all positive.

Nice Michael. What would be an interesting way to bid on a job would be to actually perform a demo as a part of the bidding process. The customer would be able to see what they'll be paying for before the headaches begin.
 
I feel privileged to be able to share anything on this site. I know for me and my business this board has be invaluable . I have put many a thing I have picked up from this site into practice in my every day workings with my own twist. I know that demos work. I do demos all the time and am amazed at the response we get. My favorite one is one I believe Ron had posted back some time ago. This has worked for me time and time again. I do cold calls as much as I can every week. At many of theses cold calls i will get the old we already have someone. Well I take that chat person up some get to know them and then suggest that they let us come in and do a demo next time there contract cleans. I hardly ever have anyone tell me no on this. So what we do is I ask when there guy is scheduled to come out again they tell me and we set a time for me to come out and do a demo that next day . It never fails they guy came and cleaned and I set up put down what ever solution I need to use get every thing ready then go get the Manager. I do the demo and it amazes me how much cleaner we clean there concrete and it was just cleaned . Now this is not true 100% of the time but if I do the back entrance I seem to always work for me . This has produced more work for us then I can count. It does not get us every job but it puts me on there list for when they have grown tired of the guy they have not producing a quality product. I am guilty of lurking on theses site for years but I am going to start trying to give back some to the boards and people we have learned so much from.

Thanks for sharing- your post is invaluable- I think the key is the demo- if you can them to see a demo- your landing ratio skyrockets, period..

I have also used as answer to the old "we have somebody already" - "no problem, if the company servicing you now ever fails to show up or for some reason your not happy with them please call me..i would be more than happy to come out and wash a few trucks to show you our unique cleaning method"..ive gotten callbacks from using this..
