I have bid on a three story redwood house to restore the redwood siding damaged by smoke and intense heat from a grass fire. In addition to the wood damaged by the fire, the ten year old house has had three applications of Sikkens applied to the wood without ever stripping the old stain. As you can imagine, the color of the wood was blotchy before the fire and what the fire did was to add black from smoke damage and raise some of the Sikkens' coating.
I have already conducted some tests and I am fairly confident I can remove the Sikkens one coating at a time so what I would like to know from those of you who might have experience with redwood, is what stain do you like best and why.
My experience with redwood has been in decks and not houses but possibly some of you in the west have experience with redwood houses.
I will attempt to add some pictures so that you can see what I'm dealing with. I have already submitted a bid and now we're waiting on the insurance company.
Thanks for the thoughts and ideas.
