Protecting engine hardware from corrosion

there's a tool for every job..
Hardened steel studs are for supporting a heavy muffler on minimal hardware,

..SAE grade 8 or metric 10.9 is what we use, depending on size-weight combination.
Stainless nuts and star washers are great for serviceability,
AntiSeize compound is for protecting that stud from rust.
Torqueing correctly is your insurance the above equation works
.. “in every race you run”..

If you’re thinking.. “mine is already __ years in service”..
Here’s what we do for our maintenance efforts in our service department..
Spray every piece of corroded hardware with LiquidWrench,
Then spray it with Aerosol White Lithium Grease, to leave a protective coating.
..As the penetrant evaporates, it carries in the “soapy grease”.
The hardware won’t fall apart, but it will “come apart” with reasonable tools.

Run a proper "PitCrew" for your "racecar", or you'll just have a high-risk hobby.
