I have the 5800 5.3gpm pump, 10 guage wire, 30 amp fuse. 3/8 hose. 1520 tip . Fully charged battery. Pump adjusted so that it runs continually, does not cycle when running. Used for first time yesterday. First roof took about an hour, also did deck at that job, so 2 hrs later get to 2nd job to do roof , working about 45 min in and the pump goes off, go to check- fuse blown and pump very hot, replace fuse, nothing happens, called dist and was told I burned up pump. now I know i should be using a larger hose and maybe a bigger tip, but I would think that it would not burn up THAT fast...?

I have that same pump and I use 1/2 inch hose and the same tip as you and I just replaced mine after 3 yrs of great service? And this is the 3rd Delvan I have owned and it has been the best pump yet. I use mine for everything roof cleaning and flatwork so there has been thousands of gallons of mix thru it, the only thing I do that will make them last a long time is rinse them thru with 10 gal of fresh water after every use even in between jobs the same day.

1/2 inch will also speed you way up by increasing your volume. I like 4015s but im a walker on 90% of our roofs. Also might want to try an accumulator. Some pumps are just crap right outta the box though, we try to have 3 pumps on board j.i.c.. Nicks right rinsing is very important, also check your ground teminal and wires for nicks or less than 10gauge, also motor head facing up. Theres a ton of info on these boards as well(beating tge horse)

Why do you have it set to run all the time? No wonder it burnt up. Use a 3/4" hose and a lot of your problems will disappear. Used a fat boy for over 2 years with NO problems and only washed it out 2 times in its life.

I think he means that he has dialed it in so it doesn't surge when running, not that it's running all the time.

I have mine laying flat? why would pump head facing up help?

It was in the instructions on one of my flotecs..lol. Rumour has it that it helps the love to not seap into the motor cavity....I mount mine motor up and when I take the motor housing off (for tinkering sake) I still see were the love has penetrated in. As a side note for the pump problem haver, I buy the 5gpm from Grainger and warranty exchange it no questions asked whenever I come in. I have replaced 5 pumps tgis year so far, no cost and new quick connect fittings each time ...got a pile of em... Gotta love the convienence.
