You can pop off a cap shingle and secure it to the roof with screws. When done you take out the screws and put the shingle cap back on over the holes. I have herd of some other people just screwing it to the roof and filling the holes with silicone caulk too. (i have not done it, not sure that is the best way to go)
 
Just make sure the harness is a Miller Harness and not the cheap Chinese knock offs that alot of places pawn off as adequate. We looked at 2 harnesses and they were Chinese garbage that I wouldn't trust to hold a 5 gallon pail of water from falling let alone myself or someone who works for me.
If it ever comes down to this piece of equipment working (or not working) the Oh s--t factor has already been pegged and if you are lucky you will only have to fix whatever they broke going over the edge and some cuts and bruises for your guy.

As far as the anchor point since we are invloved in KEC work we use the entire base of the fan duct with a 10,000 lb nylon strap or a climbing rated screw tight D ring on a solid metal point on the roof.
