Roof Wash Help Please!!!!

here's the way I wash a roof. First I would cover anything that needs covering. I will start to spray the roof with mix starting on one end and work my way to the other end covering it completely with mix. I would then go back to the beginning and with my ground guy ready to dilute any runoff I will start to rinse the roof. going back and retreating areas that need it. pick up plastic and rinse the driveway. $400.00 2 hours. the building wash is 45 minutes to an hour $360.00. My helper will be washing the house while I am treating the roof. what isn't finished on the house I finish up after I am done with the roof and he is cleaning up plastic and putting away ladders or moving everything to the next building, whatever the case may be. Now I would say that rinsing the roof adds on more than double the amount of time it takes to treat it. Am I missing something here or are you guys really getting $700.00 bucks to treat a roof with roof mix. the roof I showed wouldn't take any more than 45 minute to spray on roof mix. how could I justify charging $6,7 hundred dollars? I must be missing something. Anyone feel free to chime in here

You should get paid based on the value you add, not the sweat you drip.

Technicians mindset. It served your dad well. It served my father too. So go get a job in the lawnmower shop.

The most I have ever made (generated) that I can remember per hour is $765.00. The customer was tickled, sent us referrals, and wants to know when he should schedule us back again. No, that doesn't happen every day, that's why I mentioned it as a personal best.

I also did not get a small roof cleaning job recently because I quoted $525.00 to wash it, committing to have it done within two weeks. He offered $470.00 and I had to do it within three days. Kiss my butt. Not Interested. The only reason he researched roof cleaning was because the quote to replace his twelve year old roof was over $13,000.00 And yet his negative view of roofies would not allow him to pay me $525.00. Him and his like minded can go pound sand. How many funerals have you attended for your friends in the construction trades? You only have to bury one friend before you purpose on the spot to quit whoring yourself out for no compensation. There are easier ways to feed my children.

I do not mean to rant. Don't take it personal. But if there is anything here that someone can use to improve themselves, it will be worth the angst on my part.

Drop the tsp, don't rinse, flush the gutters. Leave..

Ride by it every day for the next week and worry yourself sick. Worry won't fix anything.

Ride by after it rains good and then drys out and you'll swear they replaced the shingles.

Why you take peoples money for soap and then take it back off?

Let it rain.

Tim, Great response to Junker1! I've been in the pressure wash business for twenty years and the cleaning industry for 27, it's the low-ballers that try to bring all of the reputable, licensed, insured, TAX PAYING companies prices down and then coast on the taxpayers dime when they fall off a roof and collect disability for the rest of their lives.. Roofs should be charged by the square foot, not by the hour. Quick question about the TSP, are you saying you don't use it??

My mom used TSP on my jeans when I got greasey helping dad in the shop. Later, I used tsp when I wanted to scrub the gloss off of painted surface so they could be re-painted. Then, when I heard about people putting it in their roof mix, I thought, "Oh my, I don't want to have to re-paint anything", so I never have used it.

Use Roof Snot. It makes the bleach stick like a booger so you don't need all that other stuff in it that might cost you money if it goes wrong.

CLARIFICATION HERE; I have not considered anyone here, nor ever came close to accusing anyone here, of being a low-baller. We have fun with that term sometimes but it also has negative connotations. I assume anyone on Ron's board is either trying to help or try to learn or maybe both. I am not now nor have I in the past called anyone here by that term.

I feel strongly about my position on pricing but I am more strong on the position that this is a free country and every man has to make for themselves the best that they can. We are not all little tin soldiers. We are individuals dammit and we should get to choose for ourselves. Good day.

Tim. Let me edit this post. I am glad that you can make an excellent living for you and your family. as you and everyone else should be able to do. with all the responsibility a small business owner has he/she should be able to make it without customers tearing them down. I once asked a friend of mine " jeez how much you want to make?" and his answer was " as much as I can ". so along with your last post I agree, every man has to make for themselves the best they can.

Well Mr Kleen I will try and be civil here because I am sure your not referencing me when you speak of low balling, disability collecting, non tax paying non insured companies. correct? and yes you can charge anything you want, any way you want. can you tell me what you charge per square foot ? I choose to charge by the hour which in my case anywhere from $150 - $200. If that's lowballing please inform me how to make double that per hour.

Charge twice as much. dam i am funny lol there is nothing wrong with 150 to 200 per hr probably more than most people on this board make.
ya that was an easy answer lol.
The main reason for those numbers are because I still charge the same price as when I was new and it took me twice as long.

I agree with you Greg. $150/200 an hour is good. Our target is $250. We don't wash between Thanksgiving and Easter. We take half of August off, and, July is slow so when we work, we need to make it count.

It would be a lot simpler to have more hours and not be so high priced.

I am not working straight out 50 60 hours a week YET. I do plan/hope to get there within the next couple of years. I am lucky enough to still be washing in November. I have two houses to do tomorrow. I would be happy with $125.00 an hour for 40 hours a week for 40 weeks which equals $200k

Oh heck yes. But that is not my reality.

I can't think of two actors I dislike more, but that is a good scene. Watched the original couple of nights ago, had forgotten about Daryl Hannah's ridiculous hat in the scene where they rehab Bud's apartment. And John C. McGinley is our generation's Lee Marvin.

I was going to give them a call today, but got busy. Thanks for checking, I will call them tomorrow. Hey Rob, I know we kinda service some of the same areas, but would you be interested in providing learning for labor. Maybe going on a roofing job or two. I have been both doing ok and lucky since I started offering roof cleaning, would be nice to clean up my process and execution. Either way, thanks for all your help.

That sounds fine. I will check with my foreman to see if they have any jobs coming up that might work out for you to come along on. All my foreman go about jobs differently with the same results. But I would rather you go with someone that is easier to follow along with and is more patient to teach you. I will let you know.
