running 2 machines

It will equal itself out. All you have to do is get a big enough tip for the GPM. Pull the trigger and turn them on. Let off the trigger and pull it again if both units come on you are good to go. If one doesn't you will have to turn down the unloader on the one that is running till they both come on.

Thanks Tony. I did exactly what you said and the machines did exactly what you said. Now my surface cleaner is acting like a helicopter!!!
8.6 GPM is unreal. I need a bigger tank than I thought. I had the machines hooked up to both my hose outlets on my house and they couldn't keep up. Looking for a tank tomorrow.

Most houses only have enough flow that a single 3/4 hose can keep up and max it out. So a second hose isnt adding any more flow to the tank, only splitting the flow between the two.

Obviously there are exceptions and going to be houses that have great flow.

I've always wondered this.
Glad I read your post

I find that that is not always the case. Different areas probably work differently but I have used 2 incoming garden hoses and it worked fine. Also, first thing I do is start filling up the tank....before I even knock on the door....

I do the same thing. I have two 4gpm machines running off a 65gal water tank, about half of the houses we go to can keep up on a single hose. some times we use both, sometimes the water cannot keep up unless one of the machines is off. I have used 8gpm machines they are nice but my 4 still gets the job done pretty quickly it still comes down to how much experience you have to get the job done quick and right.

Do you think a 160 gallon tank is big enough?

All depends on trigger time/flow of the house. I have seen quite a few guys on this forum run 8 GPM machines with 100-200gallon tanks and say they RARELY run into issues. If your flow is suffering from the feed hoses always double check for problems that could be inhibiting it though. The other day I was in a neighborhood with generally good flow from the houses but my buffer tank was barely getting drips into it. Was constantly havign to take breaks to let the water build up. Finally got tired of it and took off the backflow preventer on the bib and noticed it was destroyed.... After that was off I didn't have any issues during that job or in that track for the rest of the day.

Those Hudson valves can be a nightmare too. We for rid of those and got high flow arm valves from Jerry. You can also get them from a farm store in a pinch, but I try to keep some from Jerry on hand.

I have had a few issues with he backflow valves too The other day I had to stick my finger in the outlet and push that little rod in and it opened up for full flow. That was running only 4.6 gpm.

Great, that's what I've got!(hudson) Back to the drawing board!

I've only had 1 issue with my Hudson. Doug suggested I reset the housing screw and it's been fine ever since.

IBC totes make great tanks. They're cheap too. Check Craigslist. About $100. 275 gallons. It was my first tank. The grid is useful for hanging stuff on as well.

The only problem I have with the Hudson valves is trash plugging up the screen in them and then climbing up on the trailer, taking the hudson out of the tank, cleaning it out and then re-installing it. I have another screen type filter I will be installing in the line before the hudson to try to prevent it from plugging, hopefully will get 8 or more months before needing to clean the pre-filter but have the 1" inlet/outlet so hopefully it will not restrict flow much if any. The major restrictions in the line were removed years ago, that with the 3/4" line made a huge difference in how fast the tank fills.

Like I have mentioned in the past, I have had great flow in residential and commercial locations where I can run both the 5.6gpm and 8 gpm machines but had to put another supply hose to run the other 5gpm machine, on other times I had to run 2 to 4 hoses on both residential and commercial locations to run the 8gpm and 5.6gpm machines because of bad flow. This is with my 325 gallon tank with 3 hudson valves in it but 4 supply hoses on the tank with fittings for regular garden hoses so anything more that the 225' of 3/4" supply hose on the electric Hannay hose reel, I just connect more garden hoses to the hoses on the tank quick for more flow.

Give that Hudson valve some time. It will mess up. Guaranteed. I bought 2- 275 Gal cage tanks with ball valves for $20 apiece from a farm co-op.

Get rid of the screen in the float valve.

I tried getting rid of the screen in the float valve and the trash clogged up the blue part so the valve would not close completely so I put the screen back in.

Once I get the other filter in place, I should be able to remove the screen in the valve or leave it in as the primary screen filter should catch everything and be easy and fast to clean as it is more accessible.

When I need those totes, I get them for about $45.00, they sell them all over the place here for that price and in San Antonio and Houston when I have had jobs there.

I don't use totes, but I have hooked to 5.5 gpm machines together. I also run a 40 inch surface cleaner with it. Can you say FAST???
