Rust Removal

I've been asked to remove rust from brick siding. The upstairs water heater leaked and left a stain from the drain to about 6 ft off the ground. What can I pretreat it with?

well, those harmful chemicals and VOC's may hurt the spotted turtle or something, so you would still have to be careful.
