Safety Relief Valve

I read on an earlier pump thread on PWI where either Russ or Jerry chimed in to discuss the importance of having a safety relief valve installed on your pump. After reading, I did just that and had one added to both my 5.6 gpm @ 3,500 pumps. Today, I noticed that one of the safety relief valves had a fast drip leak out of the end of it (not coming from the screw-in threads) when under pressure. Is this something I need to start worrying about? Can all of these be adjusted and how should I proceed to adjust it? Or do I need to order another one? What is the correct SRV for my pump when ordering (psi rating?) as I probably need to get a backup or two? Thanks!

Which valve do you have? Some have a bolt or allen screw sticking out for adjustment. Another has an allen socket in the bore for increasing pop out pressure.

Russ, Paul..
we should make a list for these guys of which relief valves have
"less reliable components".. especially the cheeseyrubber-balls, which cannot be adjusted accurately,
and seals that tend to leak which rusts the springs out pre-maturely.
..And which springs are rust-proof Stainless
It is Un-Safe to tighten the rubber-ball version once it has "eroded a leak"..
It is less accurate for SURE.
Back in the day.. a "regulating relief" is what was used..
Pop-Off-Valves were a bean-counter's idea.
..and being "magnetically cheap" is the only reason they became popular.

Adams has always made the best relief valves..
I just strayed when I exceeded their manufactured limit of 3500psi..
I push 4000+psi

Pressure Relief Valves are a "Safety" device.

The best and cheepest insurance policy you can ever have for a pump. I wish I would have had one on one of my pumps when i first started, would have saved me $1000 when i installed the unloader backward...I guess those arrows mean somthing huh?
