Has anyone used a sand injection nozzel to remove paint from metal. If so how did it work and who manufactured it.

sand blasting

The trouble with sand blasting with water or alone is that you can pit
whatever you are trying to clean. I had a friend with some old trucks
I tried to clean using the sand injector on my pressure washer. It
worked but oh what a job. I also tried to remove ivy off of brick on
my own house as a test. Boy was my wife mad. Get the picture. Maybe
someone else can give you some good advice but this has been my
experience.

IN A RETIREMENT COMMUNITY NEARBY WE DO A LOT OF SAND /WATER REMOVAL OF EPOXY PAINT ON ENTRANCE WAYS THAT WERE PAINTED ON YEARS AGO,BUT IS NOW CHIPPING AND CONSIDERED A LIABILTY. IT TAKES US AS LONG TO CLEAN UP THE SAND AS ACTUALLY DOING THE WORK. ABOUT 800LBS OF SAND TO "DO" A 8X8 SPACE .IT TAKES 2 PEOPLE 8HRS TOTAL .THEN WE HAVE TO FIND SOMEPLACE TO DUMP THE SAND. BUT IT STILL PAYS WELL. DANIEL COSGROVE

Dan,

What is the advantage to using the sand versus chemical stripping on the areas that you are working? Out here we've got so many restrictions on sand blasting with neighbors, confinement barriers, wind problems, etc., it just a lot easier to chemical strip everything.

As for Bill's question, what kind of metal structure is it? Are you high in the air or is it a movable object that you might be able to confine the area you are working in? These are things to consider.

Any time we've sand blasted you always get problems with pock marks on the surface and you have to notify all the neighbors within a several block radius in writing that you will be working with possible air contaminents. This is specifically for people with asthma, etc. Personally, I think it's a real pain the rear. I'd rather work with the chems.

PEOPLE HERE ARE MORE AFFRAID OF CHEMS THEN THEY ARE OF A LITTLE MESS. AND CHEMS WILL NOT REMOVE THE EPOXY. ALSO WHEN WE ARE USING A COMBO WATER AND SAND THERE IS VERY LITTLE AIRBORN STUFF BECAUSE THE SAND IS WET AND DOES'T FLY VERY GOOD. AND WITH BARRIERS ITS PRETTY MUCH CONTAINED TO A SMALL AREA.IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR CLEANING PROCEDURE IS DRY.
