Silence the Critics!

One of my favorite motivational videos I have found.

Lettering in 5 sports in HS, I am a true competitor, which is why I love sales. . . .

I have this video on my toolbar and try to watch it everyday. . . and i always watch it when I get down .... followed by looking in the mirror, flexing my biceps and saying "who's the man, you the man!"

ENJOY!

You sure your not just looking in the mirror and playing with your tool?

I didn't letter in any sport in High School. I was 5'4" and 120 lbs when I graduated. I also went to high school where my graduating class was 900 people. Instead, I worked a 40+ hour week for three years and graduated with a solid A- average. I learned a lot in those years. I get motivated every time the alarm goes off and I roll out of bed. Typically, I can't wait to get home to my wife and four kids. Since my wife did not work outside the home for 22 years, until recently, I had to stay motivated to maintain my families standard of living. For a point of clarity, she only works in our business. She handles HR and finances.

I went to a small Christian school. Our football team still holds the record for the worst loss in Tennessee High Schools at 80 to 0 (stopped at the beginning of the third quarter)

We had 13 players total (graduating class of 17). I was a tight end (no pun intended DJ) lol.

I remember only a few things from those days.

1) I broke two fingers during a play. Since we were short players they taped my bad fingers to my good ones and sent me back out.

2) The only voice I could hear from the stands when I caught a reception was my Dad's. He was a small statured (5'4") man and quiet. Hearing only his voice has always puzzled me.

3) Our baseball team was pretty good. I received full scholarships to two Christian universities. This was after I had already enlisted in the Navy. I didn't fight it and saw it as God's will and went on into the Navy without asking for a waiver. Best choice I ever made.

What does all this mean?

Nada.

Zip.

Except that God knows best and we don't know jack.

He has provided me with a life and a family beyond my wildest dreams.

He took a man who is a worthless piece of dust and made a family and a business.

That is why all these posts are so comical to me.

Carry on with the self worship. Don't mind me.

Tony I thing I know understand why you and I are so different. I don't believe that there is a higher being playing my cards for me. DJ controls Dj's destiny.

Dangerous thinking.

Definately dangerous and wrong thinking.

I once knew a guy that started saying his thoughts out loud like that. Less than a month later on after I heard a lot of "I Control My Own Destiny" type of stuff and other nonsense like that............well an almost impossible accident happened and he is no longer here saying stuff like that.

Like they say, there is always someone that is bigger, stronger, faster, tougher right around the corner but there is always the one that made us all and makes all those other guy humble in his presence of spirit.

Yep. So glad to know that I am not in control. Can't imagine where I'd be if I was.

Criticism: I learned long ago you have to take it. Most importantly you might want to listen. I have to many stories when younger I disregarded the people who had vested a lifetime in the market.

If you think That I'm old and not up to date on technology or the ways of how the economy or the industry is moving then you might want to look at the mirror.

fundamental Sales are just that, strategies differ from one customer to another as well as the vary program that might work with one or not work with another.

Have you ever ASked your customers to Criticize you DJ? I ask mine from time to time, I actually have been told I was too aggressive. Imagine that!!!!

Knowing when to ask for the sale is a crucial step in the process, sometimes if you ask why you didn't get there business you might run across the honest person who will tell you.

If to many are telling you price they are just being nice to you. I have learned thats the number one excuse, yes a LIE. Its and easy lie to tell you because they didnt like you. Or the relations with the other person was tight.

I have a Audio of a women who didn't hire us from about 6 years ago. We asked her why , she told us all sorts of stuff. We thought she was being serious with us. Come to find out the guy she hired was her Husband. She really critique us.....until another Owner of a company told us she pulled that Scam while she worked for him. Awarded all contracts to herself.

I ask for it, its open for anyone to criticize me or my company. I welcome it

I love criticism... positive and negative ..... Positive criticism (criticism from someone that is in a place where i want to be eventually) teaches me and inspires me... Negative - two types 1) from my clients and 2) from people that are worste off than I am or in a place where I do not want my path to lead.... This criticism fuels my fire and makes me work even harder! . . . .Jim Rohn once said - never take advice from anyone more screwed up than your self.

And yes ron we implemented this little tool this year for when we loose an account .... http://www.myeasypro.com/2012/03/08/fired/

Dj cant spell that is true Dj you need to take all those millionare athletes off your inspiration board and put someone like Denzel Washington on a poster and look at him.He was visiting a army base for injured soldiers and in inquired on the cost. The man told him and he wrote a check right there on the spot for it.Life is not all about what one can do for oneself all the time.

Why are you leaving?
I had needs that you failed to meet
Explain
We had discussed that our fork-lifts, truck and golf carts should be pressure washed 1 time per month. This was not occurring.

He actually appreciated the fact that i took time to learn why we were losing the account. Still not back on the schedule but i touch base with him quarterly and he knows if the current guy slips up i want another shot.
