Soot?

I think the machine I bought might need the soot cleaned out of the burner. Checking the temp out the other day all I could get out of her was about 180. Is it a dificult job to pull the coil out and clean her off? Do I have to replace the insulation or can I use the old?

What make you think it needs to be cleaned? Some machines will only produce 180-200 degrees.....Don't rely on the thermostat knob

LOL, the knob on the thing goes up to 300...I dont expect to get 300 but I thought i could do better than just barely 180. I've looked all over the thing and the only model number I can find is a tag on the side that says...

Wayne EHASR, Firing range GPH 0.75-3.00 120 volts-60hz-5.50 amps. Does that mean anything to anybody?

Does the coil look sooty down the stack? A black coloring is much different from fuzzy, flaky soot. How old is the machine? When was the last tune up? Do you know what the fuel pressure is? The nice thing about the 120 volt burner is it can support larger fuel nozzles, increasing the output temperature.

I don't know when the last tune up was, I just got the machine about 3 weeks ago(still learning all this stuff). I changed the oil in the motor and the pump shortly after I got it. There is place for a pressure gauge so I'll see if I can find one and install. I don't have a stack, just a hole on the top at one end of the burner.

not a very good pic...not fuzzy but it looks a little flaky.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the help I'm getting on this site.

I have some Diesel Kleen i used to run in my old diesel truck, I wonder if that would clean out the nozzle. Any one ever use any fuel additive like Sea Foam?

Yes, got the right nozzles on the gun, and the steam knob is turned to the minus side.
