Listen to this crap...... I am a power washing business in the great state of Connecticut. This past week I was informed by the Department of Enviromental Protection that my portable wash reclaim systems that are located on trailers must have secondary contiament for the wash water tank or have a double walled water tank...... But yet I stick this stuff in my pick up truck and im compliant.. The second it goes to a trailer - not complinat, Has anyone ever seen this crap before????? Totally screwing moible contract cleaners in our state and they dont even no it yet. Any ideas on how to fight this???? already tired calling all state officals, no luck yet!!!! :yikes:

There are a lot of regulations out there that have not been enforced until the past couple years and it is only getting worse.

There are things like all chemicals on your truck/trailer must be properly labeled and have msds sheets in a folder/binder within arm's reach of the driver at all times, All tanks must be D.O.T. compliant/approved for use for anything other than water, Not more than 1000 pounds of a chemical on your truck or trailer without having a CDL with Hazmat endorsement, etc....

If you are recovering waste water, you might need secondary containment, you have to check your regs and make sure.

Are you having to haul this stuff away or you just processing it?

Secondary containment is easy, just have to see pictures of your truck/trailer/equipment.

If they are making everyone do it then you should also or get a fine.

I know it sucks but that is sometimes how it is.

Let us know if you have to haul the stuff away or process it onsite.

Another thing you can do is go ask them to show you where it is in writing so you know that they are not jerking you around. If it is a policy, law, regulation, etc..... it should be in writing so you can know about it.

If they can't show it to you in writing, take it up with their supervisors or managers and see what the deal is. If it is a fresh water tank let them know and chances are that you might not need one since it is water, they might have thought that it was not fresh water.

Sometimes terminology is the cause of problems. If you called it wash water instead of fresh water, they might have been thinking of something else. Sometimes it is called non-potable water. Just tell them that it is fresh water (if that is what it is) and see what they say.

Why is OK in a pick up truck but not on a trailer. sorry for my ignorance. Whats the difference its still be hauled around. Thanks

Why dont you just wash it and not collect anything, seems easier and you probably wouldnt get in trouble for that since most people own a pressure washer and do it anyway. Just my opinion...

You may want to search posts about EPA, reclamation, CWA...... You can't just let water go willy nilly everywhere on all jobs.

willy nilly haha..

Perhaps they consider a pickup bed as a secondary contanment device as it can be sealed up to hold water by closing off and seailng the gaps in the tailgate?

Come on guys, this is a joke really. The DEQ is screwing with you because they are broke. Your better off letting the water go willy Nilly Shhh just dont say anything and noone will know!

Seriously though, they want you to have a seperate tank with your dirty water in it so they can test it and say your doing something wrong. With your current setup, (dirty water directly to filter and back to fresh tank I suppose) they cant prove anything and you appear to be compliant thus putting a foot in there mouth. Dont think the DEQ isnt fraudulent. They need a cash flow and your it...

It would really be simple enough to do with a small trailer redesign. ENclose the sides, Mount the tanks and any mounts for pressure washers and hose reels, and Linex it so that there are no gaps. You would only need it to be about 6 to 8 inches high, because it is just there for an emergency.
