I spoke with a guy in the industry today who told me his cell phone bill was $600 last month. He was on a limited plan and went waaaaay over with texts/photos coming in.
I personally cannot afford a fancy droid or iphone, although I do have a low-buck smart phone. I am on Wal-Mart's Straight Talk pay-as-you-go plan, $50 a month for unlimited everything (texts, internet, photos, etc.) My web capabilities are limited in what the phone can do, but I can keep up with my email, Facebook, etc. My husband doesn't use his much so he's on the $30 limited plan, which still offers more minutes/texts, etc., than most limted programs.
The customer service stinks -- although it's better than it used to be, but the connection is good. In fact, it's better at my house than when I had Verizon. (I see that Verizon has a similar program now as well.)
So if you're on a limited budget, I would recommend Straight Talk.
