Stripes removal pricing?

By the hour also. Are the stripes on concrete or asphalt ?

If the property owner is having the parking areas re stripped, I have found that the stripping company will usually outbid the removal and make up for it on the stripping.

Let me know how the bid works out for you.

I do stripe removal by the hour kinda. There are a few stripers that sub the work out to me in the winter. They call up and want a hourly rate. I tell them $65hr. Then they want me to come out and tell them how long it's going to take me to do the job. I always try and bid a little high on the hours because a lot of the time you and up waiting around on customers, employees to leave the area to be destriped

We have the contract already. It is 5 story parking garage in Miami downtown, approximately 150 000 sq ft. It is concrete. In the contract scope we have agreed to remove only 20 lines on the first level as an addition to the sweeping & pressure washing, but now the PM wants the entire garage. This changes the price completely and since its not that small, I don't want to end up losing money after all just because of the stripes. She is not firm about that change, but I have to be ready with a price.

How long does it take you guys to remove lets say 20 lines 18'x4".

Thanks for your input!

There are different brands and quality of paint that can be used so it is also the same in removing them, some come up easy, some can take a long time, even with paint stripper.

I know guys that use 5000psi and turbo nozzles and not all the paint comes up and others that use 3000psi and a 15 degree nozzle and it all comes up.

There is no rule of thumb to go by for this kind of thing.

The Stripe Hog company charges anywhere from $1500.00 to $2500.00 minimum to come out and then it is $0.50 per linear foot of 4" stripe to remove. They are also using a vacuum surface cleaner with 40,000psi nozzles to remove the stripes completely from both concrete and asphalt without any damage to the surface. It is just amazing.

Sometimes you can get lucky and the whole stripe will come up, sometimes it will not.

I have been lucky there was only one time the lines had to come all the way off. They usually just want anything that is flaking off. But this because they are just restripng in the same spot. The one time I had to take everything up was a pain in the a.. The city said there couldn't be any stripes there so I used a sandblasting attachment. It worked just took a long time.

I have had some lines that come off like they were scared of water. I have had other that Jasco stripper and a turbo wouldn't completely remove. The ones that would not remove the concrete beneath the stripe was etched, which allowed the permanent adherence, and made the stripe impossible to remove with stripper and high pressure/heat.

I would suggest doing a sample stripe. This will give you an indication of how much time and what materials you will need to successfully remove each stripe.

Stripe Hog and United Rentals has high pressure water blasting equipment to remove stripes, but are both expensive is not equipment you can just rent.

I have watched some movies of the Stripe Hog on YouTube in the past and I was impressed. Unfortunately, this machine costs lots of money an my biz is not dedicated to only stripe removal. It is more about small jobs that come only once in a while.

This is another one that came today: 145x4" single lined parking spaces painted with yellow latex based paint over a concrete. I agree spot test is the best way to figure a price, but I am not able to do a test prior signing the contract on this one :(.

I have had great luck with taginator. I usually get $1 a foot.

If it's latex paint, it should come off real easy. If you want to try Taginator, you can get it online at ETS and get free shipping with a couple of their value packs;

Not sure what your environmental concerns are on this jobsite, but if it isn't a concern Jasco makes a great paint stripper. Roll it on with a 4" roller, let it dwell then hit it with pressure and hot water.

But the latex stripes should remove with just pressure.

Go do a test spot first.

I use it straight. Pump it up, spray it on, let it dwell, hit it with a 15 degree tip, and repeat, if necessary. I haven't seen too many latex stripes.

So, last night we got to the first level where we needed to remove the stripes. Man, I am disappointed :(.. Heat and turbo nozzle did not touch the paint.. It took me 15 minutes to try to remove a single line and concrete was getting etched in some places, so I cant continue with that method. It is probably 20 years of multiple layers, who knows what type of paints have been used there through all the years. I will have to come back there next weekend and try some paint remover chem. I'll post my feedback :)

Jim, is that the paint stripper you are talking about? This One

Isn't the taginator for small applications? I need something effective, but also not too expensive.

Thank you all again for your suggestions.

We had a parking garage to quote. We tested everything including Jasco and aviation stripper. 3,500 with heat and a turbo wouldn't touch it. They ended up sand blasting.

I would use something thicker.TRY smally co.they sell a fast acting stripper.I have used it many times .IF they are really on the tag is to thin.I have removed entire parking garages with this.it will take multi-layers.large garages we use a water jet way cool to use. GOOD LUCK..p.s i would be around 1.00 also rememger you have a mess to clean up.
