Talon 3 Swivel on New Steel Eagle Surface Cleaner

I took advantage of Paul's July specials and bought a new Steel Eagle surface cleaner with the Talon 3 swivel. Put it all together this past weekend and tried it out for the first time today. So much smoother than my BE/Whirl-Away one that is 4 years old now. One big difference stood out right away. There isn't a ground skirt on this one and water comes flying out on all sides. However, there is a plastic blade that hangs down on the rear to keep my feet dry and debris from hitting me. After 2 jobs, I love that way it cleans and having the 2 large wheels on the back make it so easy to push.

A couple of questions regarding my new surface cleaner: (1) Can you get an extension for the handle to make it 6 inches or so longer? I am 6'3" and it would be nice if the top of the handle was a little higher. (2) My second job today was 2 hours of hot water cleaning. Quite a bit of blue grease leaked out of a hole opposite of the grease nipple on the swivel while hot water was used (I wiped away most already before taking the attached picture). Grease did not come out on the cold water job. Is it supposed to do that and do I need to add grease right away? Could that be some escape hole in case it is over-greased (in this case from the manufacturer)? Thanks!

I had Steel Eagle make a longer handle for me a while back, just the top half and put a pipe straight across the top of the "U" part and has grips on it, think that cost about $80 a few years ago when I had it done. I can post some pictures later on. The past couple of years I have been wanting to go back to the shorter handle because some of the helpers are shorter and it is uncomfortable for them to use.

I have the Talon 2 swivel and it held up great for the past few years but the 3 bolts that hold the adapter plate to the swivel fell out. I put the locktite on them and they fell back out again so I think the swivel body threads are wasted so I think it is time for a new swivel. It held up good. I am thinking of the mosmatic or whisper wash swivel to replace the Talon 2 swivel.

There is a brush skirt that you can put on them, not sure if Paul sells them but Delco had them on their model back at the Dallas event years ago and I am getting ready to buy one, I talked to Larry H. about it, I think Paul can get them also since he sells Steel Eagle.

I've talked to the guys at Steel Eagle and was told that grease will come out especially after using the hot water. Some guys will grease after each use, but was told that's not reccommended since too much can be a problem as well. The manual should give you an idea of how many hours of use before that needs to be done. I sent the picture there and will get back to you soon about wether they think that was too much. I can get you the brush skirt kit and also an extension made for you on the handle. Just waiting on cost and I'll give you a call. Whatever needs to be done, we'll get it done.

Bill, thanks for the email clearing up the swivel issue as well as providing a list of other items I can get for my new surface cleaner (brush skirt kit, handle extension and swivel rebuild kit). I have a 17,000 s.f. driveway to clean next week for a waterfront home and am really looking forward to it with my new Steel Eagle. Great transaction with great customer support...thanks Bill and Paul!!!

Bill, I got a big surprise delivered by the UPS truck today...a brand new Talon 4 swivel. I didn't even realize you were going to do this...THANKS! Apparently, the Talon 3 swivel is being discontinued...is this true? The new Talon 4 is a completely stainless steel triple bearing swivel with carbide seals that can handle 5,000 psi up to 250'F (compared to 4,000 psi for the Talon 3). The Talon 4 is also maintenance free (no grease zerk). I don't know if can handle 8 or up to 10 gpm and the info is not even on the Steel Eagle web site yet. This works out great as I have around 30,000 s.f. of concrete to clean over the next two weeks to test out the next generation of the Talon. Thanks again!!!

Here is the new Talon 4 swivel with the mounting ring already installed. Thanks again Bill!

That looks a lot like the mosmatic swivel I have. Let us know how you like it after a few jobs.
