Tell me if this is crazy or not with postcards...

5,000 postcards sent out

$3,000 spent with mailing it and everything needed to get it out

Say 25% actuallt read them and are somewhat interested

Say 1.5% actually turn into contracts or 19 customers

Then say an average job is $300

Would equate to $5700 you grossed

The cost per lead would be .24cents

Actual new customer would cost .15cents

Just trying to figure out the true worth. Still have to take out a number of other things associated. Also, $300 was a low figure per customer as well as the 1.5%, so it could in the least keep you turning money and building a large consumer base that could be free word of mouth.

i have taken this year upon myself with the slogan to our customers of each customer telling 5 others about my service as that could really explode into big numbers.

I was going to send out in 3 masilings, so I actually am going to be sending out to like 1700 or so households at a time, so I can saturate them.

It should equal to more than the customers that call. You have to consider the residual effect from those that call such as referrals and if you stay in touch you're building repeat customers so that in years to come you've added enough every year that you no longer have to do mailings. If you don't stay in touch then you'll always have to do mailings because they will forget you. So in the beginning it is an investment towards the future of your company.

You can mail for less than half of that cost. We mail by carrier route.

I think youre high with the 1 1/2% Were closer to 1/2% on our mailings.

I dont see where youre getting .15 for your customer aquisition cost... Im coming up with $158 per job sold. I think your saying that you are going to mail to the same 1700 people 3 times. Thats what we do and you can tell it gets better after the 3rd or 4th mailing.

Im not trying to be negative. I love mailing. I dont have the time to hang thousands of doorhangers so this works great.

I don't do much residential any more, but when I did coatings, I never spent that much, and got the same call return you're talking about.

I placed the same ad in HOA newsletters every month. The more they see it each month, the more they begin to trust your company name.

I think I paid $55 mo. for an ad that reached over 6000 homes in a large active adult community. Maybe this won't work if there's no HOA in your target market, but worth a try.

We saw .5% or less return sometimes. But our content may have not been the greatest. I think 25% will read it is very optimistic. How many do you read? We have used Google AdWords with much greater success. The learning curve to maximize AdWords was high for a thick headed person like me but I highly recommend you check it out. We too have had a much better return with HOA newsletters.

The more you repeat the mailing the better the results will be

Yep..consistency is a HUGE factor. Also, the more targeted you are, the better your results will be. If you can only get a 1% return on your postcards, I wouldn't waste my money. I would rather spend $5000 in gas to drive around and knock on doors than throw money out the window like that.

Another thing that will at least double your return would be a follow up call after the postcard was sent. Are you split testing your cards? If not, you're crazy.
