Asking the question for current engines including and above 18hp. If you pick kohler or other, could you please which exact model you're referring to...any other comments would be welcome. Thanks.

Kohler Command series.
I hate Briggs, and that is nearly all I have. It sucks when that is all a manufacturer will sell you.

Why do you like Kohler more? Another thing I'm learning...lol...plumbers are taught that vanguard and subaru is the best engines. But lurking here, I really see you guys like the kohlers. Must be something to it because you guys use your equipment way more then us. Thanks.

I have had good luck with my Vanguard and Honda engines so far, maybe I got some of the last good ones from years ago? ? ?

I have heard a lot of great things about Kohler engines, never got to use my Kohler powered Allison Iron horse hot water skid as it was stolen, too bad, I really was hoping that engine would last a long time and make me a lot of money.

I know it's off topic Chris but did you ever get anywhere with the owner about your skid?

No, I have been tied up with family issues for a while now but I will be taking it to court and see what kind of luck I have there in small claims.

If you ask any lawn guy, or mower salesman, they swear by Kawasaki engines. Any of them would take a Kawasaki over any Kohler, Vanguard, or Honda. I didn't stay in the lawn business for long, but I never had any problems with anything I've owned with a Kawasaki engine. I had a Kawasaki motorcycle for 5 years that never had ANY problems out of the engine. I think Landa offers machines with Kawasaki engines, but I don't know why more companies don't.

I had a Briggs and we bent a valve on it after around a 1000 hrs. We've gone thru 2 honda motors now. We also killed a Lombardini Diesel(since bought out by Kohler) but my distributor here did replace it with a demo model that only had an hour on it....oh yea that cost me 4 grand but the fault for killing that engine was mine.

Today we have 1 small Briggs PW and 1 small Honda PW. 1 diesel isuzu PW but my favorite ones are the 3 Kohlers we have which are 30hp,34hp and my very favorite the 40hp Kohler command pro flat low profile filter(we run into height issues).

Kohler to me is the best. I did in the past have a yamaha and a Kawasaki motorcycles which were never a problem(without counting crashing them on dirt tracks-- good to be young then) but in this business Kohler has been the best for me.
