The dealer recommends roof pressure washing Damages shiggles

Fox I donnot do alot about roof cleaning but will point you two knowledgeable guys I would contact Don from all season exterior or Greg from splash and dash they both showd me few thing about roof washing what size 12v pump to use cleaning roof.

Hey Chris,

I already got the Delavan Fatboy from Bob's store, but was curious since the actual dealer advertises roof PW, what the roof gurus here would say :).

No pressure is the only way to go I just had to break out my surface cleaner to finish up a tile roof that had a ton of red liken on it . If I had to make my living dragging a surface cleaner all the time on the roof id have to charge more and hire some one crazier than me to do the work.

Here's a photo of a roof within 20 miles of here. It was done with a PW and one of those broom types contraptions. The "before" and "after" are actually signs on the roof and not text on a photo. You could see racing stripes all over the "after" side. This was a sales pitch with a big sign out front. A poor example of roof cleaning. I'll guarantee the gutters are full of granules. Not a great photo but it was on a very busy 2 lane road and pulling a trailer makes it tough for a close up. Trust me none of us on here would put our name on it.

This is an add cut from a big dealer of most of the big PW brands. How come they recommend pressure cleaning on roofs? How many of you prefer and clean tile roofs only with hot pressure water instead of low pressure chemical treatment?

Reason being is that most PW dealers are ignorant of the proper methods. Also, how would it benefit them to advocate non pressure cleaning? This way they can try and sell different sized surface cleaners.

I dont know of anyone (on this board) who uses pressure regularly on any roofs. I know surface cleaners used to be the preferred method, but not anymore. It just takes too long.

I absolutely agree with you, but how are they not afraid to advertise something that could end up with insurance claims and law suits from home owners and etc..
Imagine someone who does not know much about roof cleaning and wants to get into the biz. He does not know that PWI exists and goes trustfully and straight to the dealer to learn and get recommendations. He respectfully leaves the dealer loaded with the BEST equipment and the WORST lesson learned :)). That is ridiculous.
I personally started my sweeping business from the manufacturer of Victory Sweepers in Alabama. I spent great few days there with the guys and the owner and learned everything I needed to know from these great guys. There is no sweeping forum to read and learn about how it works so I had to trust them a 100% and I was not wrong :).

Until the Manufacturers learn how things are done out in the field since more and more people are converting to the non-pressure washing methods of roof cleaning, they will probably keep on with the same kind of advertising.

I think that if those manufacturers would visit the bbs's and see what the majority wants then maybe they would understand and change their marketing.

Companies selling surface cleaners need to sell them, you can't fault them for trying to sell them to those that clean that way, soon they will know better and change with the times.

What they probably could use is more pictures of their equipment in action by contractors out in the field on the proper surfaces.

west palm beach chemical roof cleaning

A company claiming to have 20 years experience cleaning roofs was cleaning a roof 2 doors down from my customer. I showed up 30 minutes after him. He had 2 guys. I was solo. Finished before him and did another across the neighborhood before they were done. My customer met me at the door with this statement! "that guy said he would clean the roof for 150. (approximately 3000 sq ft home) I did hers chemically for 250. It was perfect! As I descended the ladder over the garage, I saw a red river of tile roof sediment in the street drain. I walked her across the river full of her neighbors roof sediment and she said, "what's that?" I said "that is 3-5 years of your neighbor's roof. Needless to say they are professional pressure cleaners. Can we drop this question on this forum. These pressure cleaners are nuts and insurance companies are gonna catch up to this soon.
Someone please pm me directions on how to post pics of the red tile river!

Click on it and then click on the browse button, upload your pic. than go back to your post and click again on the icon next to the happy face (right of it), you will see your pic there, click on it and you should be good to go.

I have washed hundreds upon hundreds of Tile Roofs with a surface cleaner and a wand until I learned about chemically treating the Roofs using no pressure. No pressure is the way to go. It saves the life of the roof, avoids damage to tiles and to the underlay (water intrusion), it lasts a whole lot longer than traditional power washing and the number 1 reason from a contractors stand point. It saves our backs and is much quicker.

646

I have spent many, many hours reading through the 646 threads on roof cleaning found here : http://www.propowerwash.com/board/upload/archive/index.php?f-96.html

That's 646 threads, not posts within threads. You find guys debating about whether to use tarps or a ground guy, whether to bag downspouts, should you spray if rain is imminent, and hot to market to neighbors while you are on the job. I even read one post about a guy who fills up a balloon with the SAUCE and throws it on a potential customer's roof (jk).

The information is invaluable, I'd recommend you do the same.
