Those of you that use hose reels......with a pressure washer

Do you uncoil ALL of your pressure hose before running your unit?

We use a R2 hose rated at 265 @ 5k. With our new machine, ever since the hose started to melt ( with blue steam like smoke coming from the unwind hose on the reel, then seeing black water spraying from the nozzle) we now unwind the entire hose. All 200 ft. We do have a small reel on the new machine that will house two 100 footers. We will unwind them separately if needed, then quick connect them to the washer.

You know how they say after you've been together a while you start looking like one another. I guess they started out looking a little more similar than the average couple.

We unwind all 200 ft of 1/2 inch R2 hose. If we do not, the hose starts to melt on to the reel. We recently install 2 cox 1/2 hp hose reels. Hand cranking was a bear.

What if you were DS'ing? Chem injector 200' away from gun seems to be less effective. Also it seems all the pressure on hose left on reel would restrict pressure, flow ect..

I changed out the 200' hose that blew a hole in it for a 150' section and added 2 sections of 50' with plugs and couplers, with the plugs and couplers it was taking up a lot of room.

If you did not roll up the hose very tight, the ends of the hose where they connect do not coil up too good (the plugs, couplers and stiff hose ends are like 6" to 8" of straight hose that does not curve around the hose reel too good) so I decided to take the plugs and couplers off and used a threaded hydraulic coupler to connect hoses together and it works a little better.

This hose reel is wider and not too high so the hose only has so much room to go until the spool is filled up to the top where some others have taller spool sides and you can fit more hose.

Now I have 250' of hose and it is nice, I just did a house and concrete wash where I used up all the hose on the reel and did not have to move the trailer or add another section of hose to do the job. It is nice with more hose.

I use yellow for visibility, and for people who don't pay att.

High visibility----easier for them to be sure and run over your stuff....LOL

I usually only rolll off what I need to do the job at hand. Never thought of it damaging the hose or the reel........thas why I am here.

(I will still prob only roll off what I need though, its only 100ft and I have extra hose when I need it)

My main line is one continuos length of 150" we usually pull off all 150 as most of the work we do is on sidewalks at long shopping centers and we can clean nearly 300 lineal ft without having to relocate the trailer. Closer smaller work i will leave whatever I am not using, on the reel but really have to make sure the guys lock the reel cause it makes a mess of tangles loading and unloading all the time if its loosely wrapped and free to move around the reel.

You need to buy good reels and you never have to uncoil it all. We have crushed reel drums in no time when we bought cheap reels. Live and learn.
