USM Going BYE BYE!!!!!!!!!!

We have been vendors for wal-mart for over 16 yrs and I am starting to get call backs from some of the old managers. The only problem is that they are still looking for the cheapest price? Alot of these big companies like USM and others have ruined the price scale for doing the job right !! I always have and always will refuse to work for nothing, I rather stay home.

Nick, you are exactly right. I've always believed in fair pricing.

My prices are even with or 10-25% lower than my competition in most markets. I've suffered some by not lowering my prices enough to take over a lot of the market (I could very easily lower my prices) out of respect for my competition.

I always figured my "ace in the hole" was that I have the ability to lower prices more than my competition can and if the day comes when I have to pull out that "ace" it's there.

These national "boiler rooms" that sell on price alone serve no other purpose than to destroy the market to put a few dollars in the pockets of the founders. If you have to sell on price, do it, but don't come in with nothing more than a website and a phone and muck with an established market! It's time for some old fashioned justice on these guys. We need to use the internet and post link every negative story we can on these guys and put them back to selling time shares on the phone to old people. They don't know anything about the service business.

Did USM have all the Walmart stores in the U.S.? If not did they have the TN stores?

I used to do a couple local stores every other week and did a lot of extra work for them too. The local manager died about the same time Walmart started looking for statewide bids for cleaning a few years back and the new manager didn't see a need for pressure washing at the time.

I do know that the company doing the local stores here is not reclaiming and have never seen them pick up any water. Also have never seen them use a surface cleaner even.

Was just wondering if USM had TN or not. If so, I will go in and talk to the current manager and see if I can at least get the store in my town again and go from there.

David USM never got started on PW in TN they were in the process when they were can. The last list I seen the West TN vendor has been moved to the rejected list. I think they decided to not renew their vendor number because the liability insurance rate on PW had been raised to 10 million.

USM sale to expand Emcor commercial base

Recent developments have added another chapter to USM’s story.

Emcor Group announced May 18 an agreement to acquire USM Services from Transfield Services. The transaction is expected to close at the end of June for $255 million in cash. The purchase will allow Emcor to include additional services, such as snow removal, to its mechanical services portfolio, says Tony Guzzi, president and chief executive officer.

But for now, Emcor is remaining silent on any possible changes to the current USM business model once it becomes one of the more than 75 Emcor operating companies.

USM saw exterior facilities maintenance contracts with Wal-Mart nationwide dissolved this spring, including snow removal, lawn and landscaping, power washing and lot sweeping. Currently, USM works with about 11,000 contractors throughout the U.S. across the commercial maintenance services. Adding those contractors without including a large labor force while gaining more commercial opportunities was a point of attraction to the sale, says Guzzi. Continued....

Thats great news! I turned down all stores in OR, and 10 in Idaho, but the prices they ask me to do them for way so Low i would be losing money about $84.00 per store. I spoke with a store manager on thursday of last week and he said that USM will be terminated in 45 days. His landscapers that USM hired on already has left last week, so this is all around good news.
How this going Jason?
