Water Reclaiming----->Are You?

tyme

I am new to the pressure washing industry but not to the cleaning industry. I repair truckmounted carpet cleaning equipment, got investors, designed and built The Big Rig and it has water reclaiming and filtering on board. Our water reclaiming system is powered by a 25hp Kohler and has a Roots 45 blower for vacuum, all of the water goes to a 110 gal waste tank, transfered from that to The WaterBoy that has 8 chambers for filtering down to 5 micron, then discharged to a sanitary sewer at 8 gal per minute. The reclaim system for us needs to be that big because our hot pressure washer has 2 wands, 3000psi @ 8 gal per minute.
Water should be reclaimed, filtered and discharged to a sanitary sewer when ever possible and that is possible most of the time. We did our firt job last Saturday, a 500sq deck, reclaimed most of the water.
We all need water for our daily needs (driking, cooking, sterilizing, pressure washing) and the cleaner we make it, the better off the world is.
Am I trying to sell them for a living, not really but you never know, I am just giving my opinion and am sure that some would agree that we need to have good business practices and that would include not polluting the enviorment with wash water not filtered going into the ground or our lakes.
People have been posting pricing for various things including houses, decks, gas stations, brick, and cement but I have not seen many (if any) that include recovery and filtering of wash water (I have been researching pressure washing for more than a year).

Your pricing can double if not triple per sq. ft. if you recover and filter the water. Pressure washer operators as well as the land owners can be responsible for wash water leaving the property and getting into storm drains. Are the fines worth it? At the start of our company that was our first concern, not how to clean........
Your opinons and comments both good and bad are appreciated and thank you in advance.

If any one is interested in a rig with vacuum and filtering please feel free to email me.
We are located in Michigan, Detroit area.
Thanks

Interesting, you may be the first person doing recovery on decks (with exception of decks that are over water). My personal opinion is that not many people are going to be willing to pay for this service, again except for decks over water, including docks.

Most water recovery is performed in fleet washing and commercial flatwork.........and is not totally necessary in all circumstances.

Best of luck to you.

P.S. Do you have a digital picture of your rig? I'm sure everyone would like to see it.

I also do water recovery, that are certain jobs that do not require it, example, cleaning walkways where the water stays on premises with no storm drains.

Now if you apply any type of chemical then you must recover it reqardless of the above statement.

I am sure Mr. Alan would disagree with me in someways but I can deal with that!

Jon,
Now why go and make me out to be an a mean guy. At least wait until I disagree before you tell anyone.

ATTENTION:

Alan is really a nice guy, I have met him, he is YOUNG, clean cut, not nerdy, a family man who does not swear, smoke, drink or in any way have illict thoughts.

He is knowledgable in many things, likes to tinker, no not with tinker toys but his big toy, some call it a rig, others a pressure washer but tinker he does.

I take back assuming he would disagree with me before I have given him time to reply to my post.

Now let's see what he has to say!

Jon

Chuck can you SCRUB him CLEAN?

No....But I'll groom him for partnership.

I like that you are using the roots blower. I don't understand why more people in the P/W industry aren't using these instead of the Shop-Vac type recovery units.

Mr Alan, that is a proffesional looking set up you have. Is the rack on the front for the 5 gallon containers something you fabricated or did it come with the trailer? I need to come up with something like that to make my set up look more organized.

Phil from what I see and read your not a pressure washer but a retailer trying to sell your system, right?

If so your post should be in the proper forum for vendors.

As for using the Water boy, I was not impressed with it, have seen it, met with the owner/salesman and he was suppose to bring a demo unit, not photo copies of it which were poorly copied at that.

I have the orginal which is made by Water Technoligies. Water Boy is pretty much a copy of their system. Doubt me do the research but I am not going to say I can prove it, just knowing which started first pretty much tells you that.

I use the MD 36.

Here is a link to their web site, check it out and tell me if you don't think yours is a copy if it. http://www.watertreatmenttech.com/mightynew.html

Austin,
Those blowers, whether they be Roots or some other brand are not cheap, and either need an engine or electric motor to power it. Sure you knew this already. They are also very heavy and need a special spot, as they will not be moving around as a shop vac would do.
With all this in mind, consider that most washers are not recovering their water as they say that it cost to much. So if for some reason they start, they do not have enough money to get a nice setup like that. The Fury does this and it has a $10,000 price tag and weighs in at nearly 600 lbs. The guy who started this thread, may sell his for less than the Fury, but it is still very costly.

Joel,
Except for the rack on the back that holds my treatment box and generator, that is a Custom ordered ALL AMERICAN trailer. I use it alot for 5 gallon fuel jugs as they also fit perfectly. (The square ones like off roaders use)

Joel you can buy that rack seperatly, I think the cost is around $150 plus shipping unless you have an Alkota/All American dealer near you.

Jon and others,
I am a Newbee to pressure washing but have been researching it for over a year through BBS like this one. I repair and install truck mounted carpet cleaning equipment and repair pressure washers and floor machines. All I wanted to do is express my concern for water recovery and with a carpet cleaner type vac system- not a shop vac or vacaboom-, we can do it, filter it and then discharge it to a sanitary system.
We thought that if others were interested in a system like ours we could build it for them. We are going to power wash and do the best job possible and recover as much water as possible. We will be able to go into walk-in coolers, freezers and other hard to clean spots like that.
If you have any other questions or comments good or bad, please post them here or email me at phil@taylorwebs.com
Thanks
Phil
