water softener?

The water softener pellets I am assuming you are talking about are salt and do not soften water. They are used to regenerate the resin base that that removes the hardness.

There are powders such as Calgon that would work. I don't know how much you'd have to use to make it worth while.

Rick, what do you think is the best you could do with a rinse additive? What do you think would work best - commercial dishwasher rinse, car wash rinse ??

I don't have a clue. When we looked at car lots I did a little research into the portable softener cartridges that water softener companies rent. They just didn't make sense to me cost wise. Seems like the car wash rinse additives would work.

when I did car lots I used di system it worked good for cars. You could recharge the resin with salt. The problem is where you water is coming from, I used the same water every week

If you need it for rinse, build a small RO, 100-1000 gpd are readily available to build on your own.

If you want it for the pump feed, REMEMBER, that softened water lack some minerals and makes bad companion to brass and some other metals.

Give me a call, and I can steer you with the leads for a home made system for water softening.

As well, I think that Jerry at Sirocco, build some stoner systems. 800-400-CLEAN

I've been checking out the window washers systems and they are pretty dialed in for 'pure' water - WCR is a great resource! And looks easy enough to set up your own system, but I'm just wondering if it's possible to get good results with a rinse aid - trial and error I guess, just hoping to get a little direction - maybe there's an industrial situation where they use additives to prevent spotting in the manufacturing process?
