I'm getting ready to wash my house for the first time, thus gaining experience to wash a few more for cash. my question is, what is the best cheimicals to use to wash a vinyl sided house? How long should I leave it on before washing it off? Also, what about guttering? My white gutters are nasty!

It is starting to warm up here in Illinois! :)

5 gal bucket - 2 gal of bleach, two cups of dawn dishsoap, cup of liquid car wax. fill up with water.

Let set on walls for approx. 15 mins

How do you plan to get your chemical on the wall?
How do you plan to wash the house?

Remember, behind that vinyl is your biggest investment.

Home depot sells house wash , if your looking for a small amount. If you are going to be washing for cash you want to get some REAL cheimicals. There are people on this board that can sell you what your looking for.

Mark and Tim - Thanks for the information. I used some Krudd Kutter from Home Depot on part of my house this past weekend. However, it did not completely remove some of the stains on my white vinyl siding.

I've been looking at differnt chemicals on the web, but would like to get some advise from the pros on what they would use and where I could purchase it.

Thanks.

every pressure washer supply has some kind of house wash.
Some are made to specificly be used with bleach, some sodium pre-carb based, some like citric based, some like homemade.
Understanding what the chems do is key to the soil type your trying to remove. Sometimes one type of housewash wont work as well as another for specific types of soil.
One house might me mostly mold. Then next might be carbon deposit's from heavy road use. Another might have red clay stains. ect...ect...
I buy my cleaners from 3 places.
www.envirospec.com
www.rowlettpressure.com
and www.thechemistrystore.com[raw chems for mixing custom blends-not reccomended]
My basic house wash is limonlene, emulisifer plus, bleach,Dawn, and water. I have specific uses for each part of that mix.
limonlene or citra-clean for getting off carbon type soil
Emul. plus because it keeps the PH high so the bleach will stay strong. It also helps to keep the lifted dirt suspended untill i can rinse.
Bleach to kill mold
Dawn to make suds so i can see where my chem is and to give hang time[dwell time] so the bleach can work. Suds also help to clean.
I use a foamer and or a x-jet to apply and wash/rinse.
Then i use steve's wet wax or plex-master to put a shine on the stripped vynal.
Hope this help's you.
I reccomend rowlett for most chems because he is their 7 days a week to help you if you need it and uses what he sell's everyday.

I use Rowlett also - good stuff

I use RPC 675

1/2 gallon per 5 gal bucket

RPC also works good on gutters except for those zebra stripes that are baked into the alum.

I have also use it on concrete - good stuff.

Do a search on x-jet.

it depends on how bad the house is. If it's not old just dirty i mix the wax with the cleaning chem.
If it is pretty bad from oxidation removal-i will upstream the wax hot, with a final cold rinse as i water down the plants. Hot wax and cold rinse gives the best shine.
If the siding is still chaulky then i'll go to the plex-master.
Most times i can look at diffrent types of siding and guess the age of it. Then i do my selling accordingly.
Some people will never take an up-sale, i listen and look then sell it as one price and exsplain the steps i will take.
Most times IF you can get them to call you, over the $99 housewash guy's, you can sell yourself. The trick is to counter their el cheapo advertising with quality advertising.
As i have said meny a time,"you make more money with your mouth, then you ever will with a wand."
For instance FLEETWASH.
They do work that is less then perfect but have the best salesman around. I think they now wash in 16 states and are growing. The key to their washing. Use very, very little water.
Less then 20 gal per truck. Rinse only with the pressure washer. Everything else is bucket and brush. No real run off. Cosmetic washing only.

I put the wax in with my bleach & soap. Spray on home - let set about 15 minutes, & rinse.

The key with wax is to rinse very good.

Zebra Stripes - Spray RPC 675 straight onto the gutters - Be careful - Do not let chemical set too long - Some Zebra Stripes are baked into the paint, be sure to let the customer know this in writing.

What is an emulsifier? Is that what jomax is? Does anybody use clorax outdoor? I know it is more, but its biodegradeable just in case.

I bought zep citrus cleaner at Home depot that contains limonene. My wash mix now would be 1.5 gal of outdoor clorax, 2 ozs liquid car wash and I want to add the citrus cleaner to the 5 gal mix. Do I use it instead of dawn or in addition to the dawn...if so how much?

The liquid car wax makes plenty of bubbles too.

The Zep citrus cleaner is a good product, but damn expensive. It is fine if you only need a little now and then. If you're going to be using more than that, I'd suggest envirspec's Limonene. They sell it as a 55 gallon kit, all you add is the water. It works out to around $1.70/gallon, as opposed to HD's price of $7.00+ for the Zep product. I have used it, and it works just as well.

As far as the Chlorox outdoor, I have tried it and noticed no difference between that and regular bleach. You can get pool chlorine for around $1.00/gallon and then add water if you want to cut it down to household bleach strength. Much better than the price of the outdoor stuff.

chemicals

For house wash I simply mix 30 gallons of 12.5% sodium Hypochlorite to one gallon of Barlox. If vinyl is chalky I add a splash of car wax to the mix. One gallon of soduim solution to 4 gallons of water. 10 mixed gallons will clean an average size 1600sqft house using the x-jet in about 40 min start to stop time. I use gutter zap cut about 20 to 1 for gutters. I use a 28' extension wand with a brush to slide across the gutters and then rinse.
